A Year-Long Trip Through Associated Content

Happy Anniversary, Happy Birthday, and Happy 100,000 to Me

Pattie Byrd
Well, who would have thought at this point I could become a Hottie. In fact, I'd say it's been many a year since anyone has called me a Hottie. But my little flaming Hot 500 badge on my profile page surprised and delighted me, although I was a little disappointed to find out it only pertained to page views. Maybe I do need a better picture.

March is turning into an interesting month for me. It's my anniversary month with Associated Content, I reached my 100,000 page views goal, and it's my birthday soon. I would tell everyone my age, but I started going down instead of up a few years ago, and I've sort of lost track myself.

I started writing on AC last year at s friend's insistence. Personally, I think he was just tired of listening to me give him my take on the world around me. He probably thought let somebody else listen to your rantings and ramblings for a while. Doesn't matter, because I make him read everything I write anyway and then I quiz him on it.

So what have I learned in a year? When I signed up for AC, I found I was comparable to a teenager. For somebody who thought she knew a lot, I still had a lot to learn. I posted a little assortment of articles which were mostly read by people I threatened, I mean asked. Then I sat back and thought how in the world will I ever make any page views? After all, I can only hold that information over a person's head so long.

One day I read an article on AC, which I apologize that I do not remember the title or author, but this wise person said that if you put at least one article on every day, at the end of a year, you would have 365 articles. Well, duh. I hadn't even thought of that. Of course, that's how you start.

Then one day I got angry about something, and instead of calling my friend and giving him the what-for's about the situation, I posted it on AC instead. What I discovered was that a lot of people related to the same thing. Bingo! I'll write about life. I live in the South. Sometimes, I think we have the market cornered on eccentric.

Oh, yeah, I'm still learning about all that other stuff like keywords and bookmarking sites, and if I ever remember my password, I'll get that blog going, but in the meantime, I'm having a ball just passing along the weirdness in my world.

I guess this is the part where I have to thank everybody for reading and the help, but that seems a little maudlin to me. You know I love you. (Did that sound sincere enough?)

Shoot, at one point I wouldn't have thought I would even be writing an anniversary article. I've been here longer than some places I've worked. So what I would say to those starting out on AC is enjoy the ride, learn from the experienced, and don't get discouraged. Before long, you'll be writing your own anniversary article.

Well Happy First Anniversary at AC! Mine 2nd was March 4th, didn't even realize it. Happy BD, as well. (Yesterday was my wedding anniv. from my first marriage -- if we'd stayed together, it would hve been my 41st Wedding Anniversary! Boggles the mind.) You got to 100,00 a lot faster than I did! Congrats, you Hottie, you.
