A New Years Celebration Poem

'Tis 2008

Break A Leg!
'Tis 2008, And I ain't gon lie
I'm so happy 07 is behind me, I could break down and cry
Actually, the past three years ain't been no joke for me
I thank the Lord daily that I don't drink, gamble or smoke excessively

Not a morsel of food no where to be found
That was months of living I want to bury in the ground

With newness of life, career and gifts
I can put behind me those emotional rifts
That may keep me awake and tossing through the night
Cause I know God will make all wrongs right

Now I'm not getting cocky or getting "the big head"
I'm just thankful I now sleep when the pillow hits my head
I did not faint through the course of it all
And as promised in Galatians, in due season, the rewards would be tall

Loving a new career, with a full fridge to boot
I scream, dance and yell HALLELUJAH cause it's all just a hoot
To think once hours away from homelessness, but HE saw it different
That's why I give honor, thanks and praise to HIS Magnificence

Now don't get me wrong, I am putting it all behind
But I will not forget cause I could easily find
Myself back in the struggle should I not honor my part
To remain humble, truthful and most importantly smart
Enough to make good decisions and not cave into temptation
Cause in the twinkling of an eye it can all end in devastation

So, with a spirit full of joy and gifts to share with you
I wish you all the happiness, peace and love that's promised to us too
That as you wake and go to slumber with many thoughts in your head
Confer with the good book to offset any sort of dread

Matthew 7:7 would be a good start,
And don't think this is begging cause it all plays a part
In the plan Yahweh predestined for you and for me
Remember what started at Gethsemane

So as this year starts off before resolutions are broken
Keep the promise to believe and another token
Of appreciation to those who fight hard for what we have
To veterans, service workers and others who forged a path
That we may believe in what we want regardless of how shallow
Please enjoy every day and may God's grace and mercy follow

Happy New Year!!!!
