A New Year's Groove

When you're planning a New Year's Party, one of the things you really should think about is the music that will be playing for background noise and dancing. Here are a couple of suggestions for music that should make your list when it comes to deciding what helps to make a New Year's play list.

10) "Get This Party Started" (Pink)-this is one of the best songs for getting hyped up and with the new year lurking around the corner you definitely want to start the year up with a lot of optimism and anticipation. With the funky beat and lyrics everyone knows the words to, this is a great song for any party, especially one for a New Year's party.

9) "Give It To Me" (Timbaland featuring Nelly and Justin Timberlake)-the rumor about this song is that it is basically a big middle finger to the critics and haters of the three artists. I like the idea behind that because chances are you have someone who is that way around you and this song is basically a way of telling them to get on and leave you alone because you're too busy having a great time. Ignoring the negative comments about you is always a good idea.

8) "Let's Get It Started" (Black Eyed Peas)-once again a great party song all around but it could also be a way to say out with old and in with the new year. True this is the edited version of the song that is on the album but the new lyric is most appropriate for a New Year's party and it is a great way to get people on your dance floor, should you want them to start dancing.

7) "Seasons of Love" (Rent soundtrack)-I love this song and it is a great musical summarization of what all goes on in a year. There is so much that happens but how do you measure a year of your life that you lived? It reminds us that it doesn't matter how much money we made, how many tears we cried, all that matters is the family, friends, and love that surround us.

6) "Time of Your Life" (Green Day)-this is a pretty sentimental song that tends to be perfect for proms, graduations, and weddings so why not for an end of the year party? This is a song that says life is usually does have its up and downs but in the end that's what makes it life and that no matter what you go through, make sure that some of the times in your life are the best you can make them.

5) "Run This Town" (Jay Z featuring Rhianna and Kanye West)-this is a perfect song to get hyped up for the coming year. It pretty much says that you're the bomb and that you're going to go out and kick butt at whatever it is you're going to do. Isn't that a great attitude to have come January 1^st?

4) "Feeling Good"-there are many versions of this song, including the Pussycat Dolls and Michael Buble (I prefer either one) but the line "It's a new dawn, and a new day, and a new life for me. I'm feeling good" is great when you're ready to get rid of any negative things you have from the year that's ending and have a good, positive attitude for the coming one. Plus it's is always a nice song to slow dance to, so try putting it on after the midnight smooch to help the couples get close and feel the love.

3) "Just Dance" (Lady Gaga)-this is just a fun song and the first song that introduced us to the weirdness that is Lady Gaga. It's a fun song saying to throw your cares away for a while and just dance and have a good time. Why not have that attitude for a little while, before the new year and new goals sink in?

2) "Willenium" (Will Smith)-this song is dated I will admit since it came out in 1999 but it's still a fun song to celebrate the new year. And the beat will have you wanting to dance and get ready to face a new year. Bonus if you can find the video because it's fun to see the way other New Year's parties have looked throughout the decades.

1) "1999" (Prince)-may be dated but come on. It's "1999". From Prince. Enough said.
