Lights - With a few strings of solid orange and solid blue Christmas lights you can give your ornaments a good backdrop to shine. Mixing in white lights is perfectly fine, as long as your tree says "Mets" to your personal standards. It may be hard to find orange Christmas lights but if you change your search words to Halloween lights then you have a better chance of finding what you're looking for. christmaslightsetc.com has a wide selection of colors and styles. LED Christmas lights are a good way to go green this Christmas, as they use less energy and do not heat up.
Ornaments - For a wide range of Mets inspired Christmas ornaments look no further then your local Christmas shop. Many have trees already decorated in a baseball theme. If you live around New York then the NY Mets themed ornaments shouldn't be hard to find. If you are shopping online a search on amazon will pull up many themed ornaments. They even make decorative candy canes in the Mets colors which can be hung on the tree, for an authentic look. You can string Baseball cards featuring your favorite players, or make your own decorations. This is a great craft to do with children.
Garland - It may be hard to find orange and blue tinsel and garland, but silver will do just fine. It will add the glitz and shine to make your Mets themed Christmas tree a homerun. You can even string whole peanuts by knotting ribbon around the center of them moving down the string a few inches and doing it again. Peanuts are a must have at any game right? .
Tree skirt - Shopping at your local craft store, or the craft section at Wal-Mart you may have seen fleece material with the Mets logo. You probably thought it was unique but what would you ever make with it. Cutting the fabric into a circle with a slit towards the middle makes the perfect tree skirt. Bear Paw Quilting offers fabric in mets themed patterns. You can even wrap a Mets throw blanket that you already have around the base of the tree.
Tree topper- A traditional star or angel on top of your tree will work just fine but if you want to go above and beyond you can decorate with Mets memorabilia you already have at home. A plastic children's batting helmet, or foam finger work great to top off your Mets themed Christmas tree.
Decorating with a Mets themed Christmas tree can be fun and memorable for everyone in your home. Decorating is half the fun of enjoying your tree this Christmas. With enough creativity and style you can make a Mets Christmas tree that will be a hit right out of the park.
