A to Z Guide to Pageviews: The Series

A to Z Guide to Pageviews: J is for Just Write

Just write. Sounds simple, right?

If you've been following the A to Z series on increasing pageviews, you know that "J" had me stumped. I considered writing about Joost, but even with an invite I could not access the site.

Then there was Jumpcut, a video site. In the end, I realized that the true answer was right in front of me, under my fingers.

The real key to increasing pageviews is to "just write."

The Writing Experiment

The numbers are in. The pageviews say it all. My initial instinct about pageviews, promoting and writing was right.

Besides using a headline with a
popular search phrase and writing an article with the
right keyword density, there is one other element that will garner you very healthy pageviews.

I have inadvertently experimented with this one, when the level of my new content has decreased. It even stopped for 10 straight days, due to my undivided attention to my son and the house.

I did not mean to skip submitting content for 10 straight days. I justified my lack of submissions by taking more time to promote existing articles. I spent more hours promoting than I would normally spend writing.

My pageviews actually decreased during that time.

Here is the real secret I learned about pageviews:

Publish content every single day.

Increasing pageviews with new content is like maintaining a healthy weight. You need to do it every day. It's a lifestyle. If you take time off from healthy eating and exercising, your body's energy level with lag, some parts may sag, and you will backslide from where you are now.

The same is true for page views and new content. Resting on a body of work is not enough. Keep adding chapters and pages, every single day.

I have said it before, in emails, in private posts, in conversations with writers who have asked. The web is about fresh content and new content.

Want to build a readership? Give them something fresh and juicy to sink their teeth into every day.

New content builds readership. It also brings in the Google Alerts. New content gets picked up by other bloggers who are subscribed to RSS and blog feeds.

Want to spread your content like wildfire? Build a fire every day. Just write.

Such truth in simplicity but yes it is a common thing to think about writing rather than doing it. Glad you made peace with the letter "J". :-)

You are so right. Every time I am publishing frequently, my google alerts go crazy, but when I'm only promoting, not much results, if any. It's the same with the pageviews. I still get pageviews, but not as many as I get when I'm constantly writing. This was another great article in your series. :-)
