ABC Bartending School in Atlanta

Want to Be a Bartender?

Morgan Summerfield
Think you want to be a bartender? ABC Bartending School in Atlanta stands ready to take your tuition and turn you into a bartender. Tuition will run around $500.00. They have a one week accelerated class, a two-week day and a 2-½ week night class. With two campuses, one in Marietta and one in Duluth, they can accommodate a number of students per class, usually around ten. There are ABC Bartending Schools from New York to Tampa and Atlanta to Los Angeles. They offer job placement assistance to those who pass the test and not just when you graduate-later on as well.

They do a good job in this class of exposing you to the realities of what to expect including: the foul language, bad tempered drunks, people who want to give you a hard time and the concept of the 86 (no more drinks for you). You'll be able to properly pronounce the various liquors and liqueurs. You'll learn brands and where they fit in the overall pricing scheme. There is a significant amount of information to learn and memorize and the test is very detailed. You have to know what garnish goes with each drink. Is that a cherry or an orange slice? You better know for the test.

Do you like your martini dirty (with olive juice)? Do Mind Erasers pop your top? Whether you are partial to Salty Dogs or Sex On The Beach, one thing you won't be doing at Bartending School is drinking. Cardinal rule of the bartenders is that you don't drink while you are working…or learning.

If you are considering a career as a bartender, there is money to be made, but there is hard work as well. It is not the same party behind the bar as in front of it. This author strongly recommends you see a position as a bar back before you take the wheel as bartender. There are many little ins and outs and tricks of the trade that you can pick up by watching.

Practice your six count pour (1 oz of liquor), avoid white Russians (barf), substitute Chambord for the Kalua in the Mind Eraser (turn your guy drink into a girl drink), watch that foam on the tap beer and don't forget to tip out at the end of the night.

  • Bartending is no party, its hard work.
  • Drunks are funny when you are drinking, but not when youre working.
  • Every part of the country has a most ordered drink.
