ABC's Cougar Town; Older Women Portrayed as Desperate, Horny, Sluts

Hannah
After watching the premiere of ABC's Cougar Town, it's easy to see why people believe older women are desperate old folks on the prowl for younger prey. It's not bad enough that older women have to fight the stigma of being over the hill, and not worth even a look form a man their own age, along comes another TV show to show the world how desperate they are, and will grab the first thing that comes along under the age of 30.

We of course are all familiar with the show Desperate Housewives, where Eva Longoria who plays Gabby, a married woman was having an affair with her gardener who wasn't even out of of high school. Okay, so I guess that wasn't enough we just had to add more fuel to the fire with more shows that portray older woman in undesirable light. I suppose the TV networks are getting tired of portraying older women as career oriented, capable women. God forbid we should actually portray most older women as they really are. I wonder if this is the males working at the networks getting back at older women for all the times they called older men dating real young women, dirty old men. Look, I have no problem with an older woman and a younger man dating and having a relationship. The problem is when they overdo it so much on these shows they are actually convincing TV watchers that older women are out on the prowl every night picking up younger men to be devoured before the sun comes up.

It seems like nowadays everything that should not be that big of a deal is embellished to the point of being ridiculous. This is the point, it is making older women who date younger men look like pathetic, desperate, sluts. The real scenario is that most older women who date younger men do so because their is a shortage of older men interested in them, because the older men are with much younger women. In most cases it is not the same reason why men seek out younger women. All the older women I have spoken to seek younger men for this reason, as well as the way a younger man tends to treat the older women. Younger men tend to believe these older women are interesting, fascinating, and yes, very intelligent. The younger man truly loves what the older woman has to offer, and I don't mean in the sex department.

Another thing that bothered me about the show Cougar Town, was the lead character Jules Cobb played by Courteney Cox, she and a friend Laurie Keller go out to a bar to have a drink, Jules then meets a young guy only to get scared off and goes home. Little did she know her friend Laurie was going to drop off the young man right at her door. Well, she ends up having sex with him five minutes after she invites him in, only to have her son to walk in later on while she is on the patio with her young friend in the throws of passion. Does she learn from this? No, the show ends with her ready for another round, only this time she locks the door so her son can;t walk in. I wonder where her son is spending the night? So, not only does the show portray her as a loose older woman who has no problem with one night stands, but the kind of mother who would have sex in her home when she has a child still living at home. Boy, they sure made the rounds on this show.

Yes, as we all know it's all about ratings. However, I wonder just how far these television shows should go when they know what an effect TV has on the impressionable young minds of today, as well as the whole male population who are taking this all in. Yes, no matter what anyone says TV does effect how people see others, and the world we live in. If it wasn't true, why would they spend billions of dollars every year on advertising?

So in the end all I have to say from this so called cougar, maybe this show isn't all that Prrrrrfect!

Hannah, your comment 'they are sick to death of how most of the younger women are nowadays' doesn't sound credible. While unsure about your motive, it seems that some older women feel the need to attack younger women because the younger women are prettier. Did you write this because you're jealous that younger women are prettier than you when it comes to sex?

Hannah, if a man is dating a much older woman because he can't get women his age or younger, do you really think most of them will admit it? Cougar relationships are old & there's nothing challenging about it. A man getting a much younger woman is what's challenging because he has to be interesting to the woman. Yes, if a 24 year old man can't get women his age, then the easiest thing he can do is date a much older woman or pay a prostitute. No offense, because different people have different motives, but that's just what's true.

When a man who is married to a much older women (old enough to be his mom) is found to be fooling around with a woman his age or younger, it's possible he's not satisfied with the much older woman that he is married to. As far as envy, don't see what's enviable about having others wonder that a 20 something man can't get women his age so he dates & marries a woman old enough to be his mom?

But in quite a few cases it's true. Many though not all of these women want boytoys & can be promiscuous when they get bored of 1.

Guest (Guest): AGAIN, your information is way off the mark. Where did you leatrn about relationships? Your thinking is very twisted. I think you have an internal agenda or fear you're not dealing with. Beacuse many men date older women, as I have been told by younger men becuse they are sick to death of how most of the younger women are nowadays.

Hannah - I love your comment to Pepito! It's a shame that creativity is absent and shows like Cougar town even make it to the air!

TO ALL: I would hope at least the mothers out there would have a problem with how Jules is portrayed on Cougar Town!

Pepito: Every community offers counseling, even for people like you! Doen't Pepito mean Small Peter? I'm a little rusty on my Spanish!

The author of this review is angry that she is old and ugly. And that all the career success in the world won't fill in the emptiness from being an ugly girl that men don't pay attention to.

Thanks for the review. Glad I didn't watch. I had a feeling it was going to be pretty tasteless.
