The new season of Desperate Housewives will air on September 25, 2011 and it will be a sad occasion for both fans and cast of the popular and long-time run of Desperate Housewives and the drama on Wisteria Lane.
Deadline.com is reporting that Season 8, the 2011-2012 season will be the last season for the popular series, which has been keeping fans on the edge of their seats since the show premiered in October of 2004.
This year will also mark the first year that Marc Cherry, the creator of DH, doesn't direct and produce the show. Cherry is said to be dedicating his time to developing a new show. Cherry is also involved in a lawsuit filed by former star, Nicolette Sheridan, who claimed battery by Sheridan in the form of a slap to the face, unlawful termination and unlawful retaliation.
Desperate Housewives was expected to run through 2013 with season 9 being the last for the series. ABC had taken measures to place options on the four stars of the series. The current stars of Desperate Housewives, Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross, and Eva Longoria were shocked to hear the news of the show ending at the close of the upcoming season due to the options hold for 2012-2013 by ABC.
Desperate Housewives debuted in 2004 drawing over 21 billion viewers. The show has remained a favorite through the years and was the third highest revenue earning show in 2010. The show has had its ups and downs with changes of cast members, but the current stars managed to keep the faithful fans tuned in and ratings up.
The last season of Desperate Housewives left fans with another cliffhanger, a murder, the identity of a stalker, a confession and lots of unanswered questions. Tune in to ABC for the season premier and last final season of Desperate Housewives on September 25, 2011 at 8:00 Central Standard Time.
