ABC's The Nine: Another One Bites the Dust?

Show Pulled from the Schedule

If you are a fan of ABC's The Nine, you may have been a little bit surprised when you tuned in to watch the show on November 29th. Unfortunately, that surprised didn't involve a new plot twist, it involved finding out that your favorite show wasn't on the air. If you are like me, you may have been wondering why.

The Nine is a primetime television show that revolves around nine survivors of a bank hostage situation. To be honest, at first, I was dead set against watching The Nine. Not because I didn't like the storyline, but because it took over my favorite show from last season, Invasion. This has in turn left me wondering what is going on with ABC. Now, to ABC's defense they haven't "technically," cancelled The Nine. They did, however, pull it from their air and put it on a hiatus. My hope is that the show will turn when Lost does, but who knows for sure.

The thing that I liked about The Nine is that it told the story from a different point of view. Instead of learning about the above mentioned bank hostage right from the beginning, we were only shown bits and pieces. Each week, those pieces to the puzzle were beginning to fill in. In fact, with the last show that aired, we learned the reason why Jeremy and Lizzy couldn't continue to see each other after the bank robbery, despite getting ready to have a child. I couldn't wait to see what would happen next, I am just hoping that I will be able to.

I do understand why the show was cancelled, the ratings weren't as high as ABC probably had originally hoped for, but ABC had to realize the Lost's hiatus would have an impact on The Nine. After all, that is why I finally decided to tune into The Nine. I didn't turn the television off quick enough and I was pulled in right from the start. A few weeks ago, after listing to a Podcast on ABC's website, I was even more intrigued. It seemed as if the show was really starting to pick up! In all honesty, it seems to be as if ABC is going to keep on canceling shows until they find the next big thing; a new Lost.

I do realize that not everyone else may share the same view as me, but I wish that the networks would realize that pulling a show off the air, mid-season, isn't going to gain them any new fans. To be honest, I am to the point where I probably will never tune into another new ABC show, no matter how good it looks. After having a few of my favorite television shows canceled by ABC, just when I thought that they were getting good, I am beginning to wonder why I should even bother.

I never got a chance to see this show, but it did look really interesting, sorry it was pulled.
