ABC's "Off the Map" Review - "Grey's Anatomy" Clone

Off the Map is the latest TV show attempting to follow up on the popularity of medical dramas like Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice but also throwing in a touch of the outdoors to possibly cater to the Lost crowd. Off the Map focuses on three doctors looking for a new start in a remote South American jungle. It follows their struggles to adapt to the environment, the new diseases and treatments, being understaffed and understocked, and their own emotions and problems.

After a few episodes in, I've found that Off the Map has a very close feel to that of Grey's Anatomy. The two main characters consists of Martin Henderson, an experience and world renowned humanitarian and doctor, and Lily Brenner, a doctor who almost acts like an incoming resident as she is not that familiar with surgery procedures. These two give me the feel of Derek Shepherd and Meredith Grey early on in their relationship when they were still sneaking glances at each other and sometimes avoiding each other out of nervousness or embarrassment. They didn't sleep with each other on the first day, but the sexual tension is everywhere so far on Off the Map.

Off the Map's Tommy Fuller reminds me of Alex Karev as they both seem to enjoy "playing the field" and having fun while being a doctor. He has showed his soft side a few times similar to what Karev has done throughout the years. Mina Minard not only looks similar to Izzie Stevens, she also exhibits a lack of confidence that is very similar and picked on by the other characters. Minard also seems to be underestimated for her abilities much like how Stevens was throughout the series when all they thought of her were her looks.

Zitajalehrena "Zee" Alverez also seems very similar to Miranda Bailey as she is very hard and brunt towards the newcomers and pretty much anybody. She has yet to show any soft side to her persona but I'm sure it will develop over the course of Off the Map, similar to Bailey's. For Off the Map to continue with any success, it probably needs to have some actual changes in personas. The characters are very similar to Grey's Anatomy characters and are already starting to drive this TV viewer away despite my love for everything Grey's Anatomy.
