ABC's Skating with the Stars Successful as UK's Dancing on Ice? (Photo Links)

Skating With The Stars is ABC's remedy for those of us who will inevitably go through Dancing With The Stars' withdrawal when Season 11 ends on November 23. Thankfully, ABC has overlapped the two shows so that we won't miss a beat when DWTS finally rests, and Skating With The Stars hopefully will grab the baton and continue with the same success.

Furthermore, will Skating With The Stars follow in the footsteps of the highly successful UK show Dancing On Ice which just successfully finished its fifth season?

In fact, Dancing on Ice's format which was devised by London Weekend Television (now a part of ITV London), is a "hit in eight different countries, including Italy and Chile", according to Wikipedia.

However, if you don't put much merit into Wikipedia lore, read what Stephen Brook of Guardian.co.uk wrote about Dancing On Ice in March, 2010:

"With the grand final soon upon us, now is probably the time to admit that I have become addicted to Dancing on Ice. Over the past two months, what had been casual Sunday night viewing of what is, I admit, a derivative talent contest has segued into something dangerously close to appointment viewing. But it was when I found myself picking up a Sunday paper just because it had salacious news about the programme's stars splashed all over the front page, that I realised I had crossed the Rubicon."

Brook's words are compelling, aren't they? It's as if they summarize how many of us feel about Dancing With The Stars.

But back to the question of whether or not Skating With The Stars will be as successful as Dancing On Ice.

Maybe that question is not even relevant when most likely the majority of Americans aren't familiar with UK's Dancing On Ice. In fact, it stands that more of the red, white and blue nation will compare Skating With The Stars to Dancing With the Stars. Yet, is it fair to compare apples to oranges?

Further will the fact that Fox's 2006 Skating With Celebrities was a complete failure after one season and thus not renewed, sway Americans into believing that Skating With The Stars is destined to share the same outcome?

Thankfully, we won't have to wait long to find out. November 22 is just right around the corner and maybe ABC will find themselves with another hit on their hands.

I hope this helps those with withdrawal pains, however, it would not affect me one bit if DWTS goes off the air. Great reporting.
