ABC's "V" Makes Debut: Good Start to a Classic Miniseries
The Visitors Come Again and Make Their Way Back onto Primetime
This night was a great start to the classic miniseries that hit us hard in the mid 80s. For those who missed it, picture the scene from Independence Day with Will Smith where the ships arrive and take their positions and you've got the first 10 or so minutes of V 2009. Soon we see how there's obviously a group that knows what's going on (we can only assume they're conspiracy theorists cause it's not explained how they know)
Afterwards came the establishment of all the storylines, which in my opinion came together like a Stephen King novel--well constructed. Afterwards we soon realize that there's some reason to why they want only "good news" to be spread about them.
One thing I liked was how they claimed the Visitors were already established on Earth, and how they caused ill-fated wars and such to bring about their heroic arrival. Not bad.
The characters this time are(from ABC.com):
Erica Evans-is a top agent with the FBI's Counter Terrorist Division. Single mom, you know the drill--gotta take care of the rebelloius son while dad is off who knows where. Nothing new about that. Very, very long time to establish this character. It was like watching a cop show inside another show. However, Erica makes up for it in the end as she takes her position obviously as a dominant character.
Morena Baccarin could have easily been Diana from the classic V miniseries (Ok, enough talking about the classic show, you newbies read up here ) the only difference is the short hair and her name. Morena plays "Anna", the leader of the Visitors. Very sexy and cool at the same time. She arrives with better grace than Diana did in my opinion, but Diana's hair! I love long hair so forgive me. Not that there's nothing wrong with Anna because Anna carries herself very, very well.
And then there's "the Recruiter" Laura Vandervoot . She plays a great side character to Anna because she's the one with the low-cut blouse strolling around the place smiling recruits in. It's not trashy and they don't unecessarily zoom in on her chest so it was a great look for her in my opinion. She anchors Erica's storyline with her eye on Erica's son.
There's the preacher, Father Jack Landry, who is trying to keep his parish faithful in the whole ordeal, only to be sent on a mission by a resistance fighter, Ryan Nichols who plays a great traitor to the resistance.
Not to mention his lady, Valerie Stevens realizes he wants to marry her...sucks to be him.
Honestly, I didn't see that coming. I can only wonder how they're gonna use him. The character Chad Decker finds himself a conflicted journalist close to the end of the show, inadvertently becoming the spokesperson for the Visitors.
It was a great buildup and really speeded up the plot at the end with the discovery of the resistance fighters and actually seeing one of the Visitors green scaly skin...awesome.
Don't worry parents, you only get a glimpse.
Now the only question I have is...Will Anna EAT THE GUINEA PIG (OR GERBIL WHATEVER IT WAS LOL)???? OH you don't remember? click here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VObQfWMgmIM
Come on, you know you want to see her do that. It wouldn't be a true "V" miniseries. But then again, that was NBC. Let's see how ABC takes it.
See you next week!

Post a CommentI agree, I thought this was a great start! I didn't even know it was a mini-series before, but now I'm excited to see where this heads, especially knowing there are traitors out there.
