Ability Points in the Game Maple Story
What Do the Different Ability Points Stand For? Hp, Mp, Str, Dex, Int and Luk
Hp is your health, and determines how much damage you can take before you die. This stat increases every time you level, and the more strength you have the more it increases with each level. I would not recommend putting any points whatsoever into HP, as your points are far better spent on the appropriate abilities. You will get an increase in HP anyways, so ignore this one when it's time to distribute points.
MP or Mana Points is your magic. Magicians have very high MP, and the higher the intelligence is, the bigger increase in MP you get at each level. You do not put any points into this one, as with HP your points are needed elsewhere. You will always get an increase in MP each time you level anyways.
STR: This is strength and decides how much damage you can do with a basic attack. High strength is necessary for warriors, and also bowmen and strength bandits need some of it. The only job that should ignore strength completely is magicians. How much strength you have decides how big increase in HP you get when you level.
Dex: In Maple Story Dexterity is for bowmen, and decides their accuracy. Other classes that need some dexterity are thieves and warriors. Magicians should always keep their dexterity at 4, as it's useless for that class.
Int: Intelligence is the magician's ability, and is only used by this job. How much intelligence you have determines how big an increase in MP you get at each level up, but this ability is only useful for magicians.
Luk: Luck is for thieves, and determine how much experience you lose when you die and also your avoidability. Magicians should keep their luck 3 points higher than their level, and the other two classes should avoid luck completely. There are some rumors about high luck increasing the chances of good loot, but this is not true.
Make sure that when you create your character you roll a perfect dice for your character. I can promise you that the hour spent trying to get the perfect dice will pay off later, and there are countless people who have had to start their character over again at level 40 because they did not understand how important it was to have the perfect ability points.
The hot key for ability points is "a".
