Abnormal Breast Symptoms: The Acupuncture Alternative

Acupuncture Improves and Prevents Breast Disorders

With alternative medicine at the forefront of consumer health, many women are turning away from traditional medicine to improve breast health. As a result, ancient Chinese medicine practices have become increasingly common. One such procedure, acupuncture provides women who wish to prevent or cure breast disease, a supplementary and complimentary approach to traditional healthcare and medical services. Understanding the dynamics of ancient Chinese medicine, the impact of emotion to the underlying potential risk of breast disorders, and the methods by which acupuncture works to improve breast health, will give a woman the resources and tools to make an educated decision in terms of maintaining and improving breast health.

In ancient Chinese medicine, it is believed nerve involvement and emotions play a significant role on the impact and incidence of breast disorders. With a woman's daily change in stress levels, ancient Chinese medicine believes the internal bodily fluids are modified in response to this stress, and unable to flow freely through the female physiological system. As a result, specific elements of bodily fluid, referred to as Qi, become thickened, clogged and even develop into nodules. These nodules, as a general belief, develop in areas where Qi flows naturally and most abundantly; the breast, chest and upper back. When unable to flow smoothly, nodules develop, leading to female health disorders, including breast cancer.

To improve the flow of Qi, and to prevent or cure breast disorders, many women are turning to the ancient Chinese practice of acupuncture. Especially for women who experience significant stress, emotional loss and traumatic events, as these emotions are believed to be associated with the complications which may rise in specific quadrants of the breast tissue. As a result, women in these risk groups find the use of acupuncture to be of significant benefit to not only relax the body, mind and soul but also stimulate the flow of Qi so as to prevent the stagnant development of nodules in and around the breast, chest and upper back and, therefore, reduce the risk of developing breast disorders.

When seeking acupuncture treatment, for the purpose of improving Qi flow and preventing or treating secondary conditions such as breast disorders, the acupuncturists will place small, fine needles in strategic patterns over the female body. Leaving the needles inserted for several minutes, the nerve endings believed to be most involved in the stress, hormones and central nervous system are activated. Following the needle acupuncture session, the acupuncturist may recommend a course of massage therapy and even the use of daily herbal supplements which serve to compliment the acupuncture session and provide a total alternative medicine approach to a woman's health.

While acupuncture is certainly not recommended as a sole cure to breast disorder, it is commonly found to be an excellent source for complimentary, or supplementary, care when combined with traditional medicine. As a woman when experiencing breast disorder or breast complications, consult a breast specialist regarding the variety of alterative medicinal treatment options, including the use of acupuncture, in an effort to improve the flow of Qi, supplemented with methods for improving emotions and central nervous system response and, thereby, eliminating the further development of nodules in and around the breast tissue.
