Abortion Increases Where Clinics Are: 94% Are Located in Predominantly Black Urban Areas
"Abortion is the Civil Rights Issue of the 21st Century." Dr. Alveda King
"In fact, black children are aborted at three times the rate of all other populations," according to Catherine Davis, Director of Minority Outreach for Georgia Right to Life. In Georgia, blacks make up only 30% of the population, but 57% per cent of the abortions. Georgia leads the country in reported abortions performed on black women.
On February 17, national black leaders are joining a bipartisan group of black and white Georgia legislators to end what is being called "the ugliest form of racism: Abortion." End it, not make it safe and legal. "Civil rights leaders didn't fight to make lynching safe and legal, they ended it," noted Dr. Johnny Hunter, President of LEARN. He commented that all the civil rights progress made in education, voting and equal opportunity employment means nothing to a dead black child.
"The Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act, HB 1155, makes it illegal to knowingly perform, solicit or accept funding for either race- or sex-selection abortions. This bipartisan legislation is being introduced by Representative Barry Loudermilk to "hold accountable those who would perform, solicit, or coerce an abortion because of the race, color, or sex of the child." This bill is based upon existing federal legislation in the 111th US Congress.
Dr. Alveda King, Martin Luther King Jr.'s niece, was quoted as saying, "I commend Rep. Loudermilk and the other legislators for ending this last bastion of racism. Abortion is the civil rights issue of the 21st Century."
Can this be true? Only 1% of abortions are performed because of rape, incest or the mother's health. And this? 94% of abortion clinics are located in predominantly African-American urban areas. And this: Black children are aborted at 3 times the rate of any other population.
Yes, it can. Somebody please be shocked and sickened.

Shirley, you are SO wrong. Where people go that idea I'll never understand. PP was originally there to provide PLANNED PARENTHOOD, provide health services to women and educate them on birth control. Abortion is not their main purpose. What a twit you are.
Oh, and abortions increase when PP moves in because people go where the services ARE! So many clinics have been shut down, that of course the abortion rate rises. But many of them are women from out of the area.
Abortion clinics move where they're needed or will be accepted. Unfortunately, black women get pregnant out of wedlock more than any other group -- 80% of black children are illegitimate (I know that's an un-PC term, but it is what it is.) Even if these women were provided birth control info, they'd still get pregnant, it's the culture. And young white girls are catching in unwed birth numbers. I do not advocate abortion as a form of birth control, could never have one myself, but it's not my business if someone else has one. I don't see this as a form of racism at all.
This seems to be kind of a chicken-and-egg dilemma. Are abortions increasing because the clinics are there, or are the clinics there because there is a need for them, and abortions are increasing because the clinic has answered the need and made it safe and affordable to abort? It's too bad women are resorting to abortions when Planned Parenthood makes access to birth control so much easier. As Allene said, telling women to "keep their legs together" has never worked, but making birth control safe, easy and affordable is probably the greatest single weapon against abortion.
I tried to leave a comment here but it would have been so long and difficult to express that I decided not to. The piece is excellent; however, and will certainly cause some discussion. Love ya Linda!
Just reporting the facts, and the quotes. But if you're interested see Shirley M's comment and do the research, and also don't ignore the quote from Ginsburg under Did You Know.
Abortion is a far bigger deal in the USA as compared to the UK, where it is legal, however these statistics are shocking, and say something about the African American community and way of life. Being rich or poor or where you live does not make you pregnant or want to abort a child. Being careless, not using protection, and sleeping around are the basic causes of most unwanted pregnancies.
interesting article, I am not familiar with the states from the states on this issue
