Aloe vera is from the thick, green-succulent leaves of the aloe plant. Aloe plant produces aloe vera gel, aloe vera powder and aloe vera juice. Aloe vera juice is made from the gel of the aloe plant. According to University of Maryland, aloe vera is 99 percent water. However, it contains glycoproteins for easing inflammation and pain and
polysaccharides to promote skin growth and repair. Like all herbal supplements aloe vera should be taken under medical advice and supervision.

Aloe vera juice is a healthy, nutritional drink packed with nutrients to support the body's functions. It has a bitter, unpleasant taste but it may be mixed with other juices to improve its flavor and taste. Aloe Vera juice relieves constipation, coughs and ulcers. Aloe vera juice contains vitamins A, B1, B2, B6 and B12 as well as vitamins C and D. Vitamin A supports good eye sight, the skin and the mucous membrane, according to WorldDietcom. Aloe vera juice is a nutritious food supplement that provides many health benefits. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, aloe gel from which aloe juice is made, contains glycoproteins and polsaccharides; they strengthen the immune system and stimulate skin growth and repair. Aloe vera is an anti-inflammatory an immune system booster according to the University of Maryland.

Side Effects
Aloe vera has a laxative effect; it may cause diarrhea resulting in electrolyte imbalance along with low levels of potassium. Low potassium levels can lead to serious complications including muscle weakness and irregular heart beats according to Mayo Clinic. Aloe vera products should be taken under the advice and supervision of a professional healthcare provider.

Precautions
Individuals with an allergy to Liliaceae family plants, such as onions, garlic or tulips may have an allergic reaction to aloe vera products. There have been reports of eczema like rash and hives with the prolonged consumption of aloe gel. Diabetics or individuals with hypoglycemia and others taking medications or herbs relating to blood sugar control, should consult with their physician before taking aloe vera products. They may also need to be monitored and have their medication dosage adjusted to avoid having low blood sugar, according to the Mayo Clinic.
