ChocQuibTown, or Choc Quib Town, is a Colombian hip-hop trio group from El Choco, Columbia. The group ChocQuibTown has been nominated for a Grammy Award in the category for Best Latin Alternative, Rock or Urban Album for their album Oro, which means Gold in Spanish. The group will find out if they won on Sunday, Feb. 13 during the Grammys.

ChocQuibTown will perform during the pre-telecast ceremony for the 53rd Grammy Awards.

The music newcomers won a Latin Grammy for Best Alternative Song for "De Donde Vengo Yo" at the 11th Annual Latin Grammy Awards in November. Those that watched the Latin Grammys saw them perform on an international telecast. They got rave reviews and picked up some performances in the United States. And now they've been recognized by the Grammys with a nomination and may possible win a Grammy Award.

The group ChocQuibTown consists of Carlos Valencia, also known as "Tostao,"; his wife, Gloria Martinez, also known as "Goyo" and her brother Miguel Martinez also known as "Slow." This makes it a family business with close ties for their album Oro.

They got the name of the name ChocQuibTown by combining the province where they're from, Choco, and the capital, Quibdo. Gloria Goyo Martinez, Miguel Slow Martinez and Carlos Tostao Valencia currently live in Bogotá, Colombia.

ChocQuibTown's music is described as traditional northern Pacific coast rhythms mixed with urban hip-hop and salsa. You'll also hear some funk and reggae in their music. They classify themselves in the genre Hip Hop Funk Afrocolombiano. The group wears colorful outfits are are often seen happy and smiling enjoying what they do. They are likely to wear vibrant outfits to the Grammys.

In addition to Gloria Goyo Martinez, Miguel Slow Martinez and Carlos Tostao Valencia, other members of ChocQuibTown are musicians Larry Viveros on drums, congas and marimba, Jhon Sanchez on electric bass and vocals, Andrés Zea on drums and Milton Jurado on guitar.

This youthful group has said they feel proud of the Grammy Award nomination because the town where they're from, El Choco, is underdeveloped and forgotten. They want to introduce their music and culture to the world. They've helped do that with the song "De Donde Vengo Yo."

ChocQuibTown's music is popular among young urban blacks in Colombia. Their debut album, Oro, in the United States out through Nacional Records.
