About General Electric Model 512F Clock Radio

Z. Perry
An antique clock radio, the General Electric Model 512F features a mechanical alarm clock and a built-in speaker. This medium-sized rectangular unit has its tuning, alarm, and volume controls located on the front panel. Collectors can still find the General Electric 512F and its service documents for sale online.

MODEL DETAILS

The model 512F offers a superheterodyne receiver which only tunes the AM radio band, according to Radiomuseum.org. The same website indicates that General Electric introduced this radio in the early 1950s. It runs on AC electric power, not DC or batteries. The 512F's front-mounted controls make it convenient for desktop use.

GENERAL TIPS

If the 512F receives an AM station poorly, try turning the radio so that it faces a different angle. Remember that the analog alarm will sound at both AM and PM times, so don't activate an alarm for 8:00 am the next morning until it's later than 8:00 pm at night.

REPAIR INFORMATION

OldItemSale.com sells Howard W. Sams photofact documents for the 512F and similar clock radio models from General Electric (set #143). These include schematics and other technical data useful for repairing radios like this. The same documents also appear for sale on eBay.com at times, though such items tend to come and go.

SELLING PRICE

As of 2011, the General Electric Model 512F appears to hold more value than many used clock radios, but it isn't all that expensive. Someone listed one of these units on AntiqueRadioExchange.com for $15 dollars in November. It's not clear as to whether it successfully sold at this price or not.

The 512F seldom appears for sale or auction on eBay. A similar model, the General Electric 516F, did sell for about $10 dollars in February. This model was manufactured during the same time period and offered similar features.
