About George Clooney's New Film, The American, Opening September 1, 2010
The American Promises to Deliver Lots of Eye Candy
Two trailers have been released so far. The first shows Clooney (looking particularly handsome, I must say) driving through breath-taking scenery and fiddling with big guns. He has a gorgeous romantic interest (Violante Placido), who also fiddles with guns. He talks about sin with an Italian priest (Paolo Bonacelli): "All men are sinners," Jack says. "Everything I've done I've had good cause to do."
The second trailer shows many of the same scenes, but cut at a faster pace.
Judging from the trailers, this film promises to have lots of eye candy, both the human and the scenic variety. I predict it will be a hit. It seems to be reaching out to various demographics -- action fans, romance fans, drooling Clooney fans, and perhaps even art-film fans who like to to see characters do some soul searching.
Anton Corbijn (director of the critically-acclaimed Control) is the director and Anne Carey the producer. Rowan Jaffe wrote the screenplay, based on the 1990 novel A Very Private Gentleman by Martin Booth.
In other news, at the 2010 Emmy Awards on August 29, 2010, three days before The American opens, Clooney will receive the Bob Hope Humanitarian award. Among the many causes he's worked on are advocating stopping genocide in Darfur, co-founding an organization to help prevent mass atrocities, and organizing events such as a 9/11-rescue-worker tribute and fund-raising concerts to provide aid for natural disaster victims.

Post a CommentI just saw the trailer when we went to see Inception (which was an incredible film, by the way). I was definitely intrigued by it; it seems like an entertaining concept and I love George, so it's a win-win. :)
