Absence

Missy H.
From time to time, your absence
bares it's weight down on my heart
I feel it, strong, on occasion
I have melancholy down to an art
Even though I do feel happy
I miss the you there with me
wondering if you still look like
the you in my mind I see
I knew you, not long enough
your time in my life too small
I can not imagine my life
if I never knew you at all
Would I think the same thoughts
Would I be who I am today
if God did not see fit
for us to meet, then part away
Often wondering why he made me
someone who becomes so easily attached
wishing I could keep a connection
even after the wounds have been patched
Ones who left this world
I miss you too just the same
Sometimes I get a warm feeling
when I hear someone say your name
I know it always sounds cliche
But it really is something to ponder
Maybe the old saying is true
that absence makes the heart grow fonder

What a beautiful poem. A lot of thought went into this.
