Absolute Best Top 5 College Football Quarterbacks of All Time

These College Football Quarterbacks Are the Best Ever

Darrin Atkins
College football is all about great quarterbacks and how those quarterbacks lead their teams to victory. To know anything about college football, you need to know all about the greatest college football quarterbacks of all time. Here are the top five college football quarterbacks in history.

To win big in college football, you really need a high-quality quarterback who knows what he is doing on the field and who can implement the plays that are called by the coach. The best college football quarterbacks eventually lead their team to titles and championships.

Tim Tebow of the Florida Gators

Tim Tebow of the Florida Gators must be considered one of the top five quarterbacks of all time in college football. He won a Heisman trophy in 2007 as the best all-around college football player, and he has a chance to win it again in 2009. Tim Tebow has also played important roles in two college football national championships, in the Gators' victory over Ohio State in the 2007 BCS National Championship Game and in the Gators' victory over Oklahoma in the 2009 BCS National Championship Game, according to Wikipedia. If the Gators win a third national title under Tim Tebow, he could be considered the greatest college football quarterback of all time.

Matt Leinart of the USC Trojans

Matt Leinart won the 2004 Heisman trophy and also became USC's all time leader in career touchdown passes and completion percentage, according to Wikipedia. He led the Trojans to an undefeated 2004 college football season, culminating in USC's win over the Oklahoma Sooners in the 2005 Orange Bowl BCS National Championship Game.

Doug Flutie of Boston College

Doug Flutie may not have been the biggest or best college football quarterback of all time, but he won the 1984 Heisman trophy and is considered by many as one of the best ever. When he left school, Flutie was the NCAA's all-time passing yardage leader, according to Wikipedia.

John Elway of Stanford

Though John Elway never won a Heisman trophy, he finished second in voting for it as a senior. Elway finished his college football quarterback career with almost 9,349 total passing yards and 77 touchdowns, according to Wikipedia. Most people remember John Elway for his impressive NFL career, especially the fact that he led the Denver Broncos to a total of five Super Bowl appearances, with two victories.

Jim Plunkett of Stanford

Jim Plunkett won the 1970 Heisman trophy and led Stanford to a victory over Ohio State in the Rose Bowl. He would later win two Super Bowls and become the Super Bowl XV MVP, according to Wikipedia.

Yeah, I saw him play a bunch of times down in Tampa, and I guess I have always wondered what happened to him, yeah the guy was amazing, I was there when he broke the yardage record in 1998, but I heard he got injured pretty bad and never went pro, but I also heard he came from some rich family down in miami, but yeah, I agree, he was the best I had ever seen to that point. where is the next Ricky Ortiz

  • Does anyone ever remember Ricky Ortiz?1/9/2011

In the 90's little known USF had what might have been the greatest QB of all times. Lets face it, know one did more than this guy, NCAA records galore, ranked as quite possibly the greatest ever to play the game, the guy broke Detmers records in his Junior season, and is recoginized as the best ever to play the game. Whatever happened to him?

( Why to some people love criticising others? If he didn't like your article he can read another. Did it damage him in some personal way? Jeesh.) I am catching up on 300 e-mails today!(So forgive the impersonal. "I was here!")I'll try to do better, promise! And for those of you who are in my inbox a lot, please forgive the many times you receive this!

Stop writing about college football. You are ignorant.

  • Are You Kidding?10/22/2009

You should be thoroughly ashamed of yourself. Each of these football articles manages to be more laughable than the last. Sadly, that's the nicest thing I can say. "According to WikiPedia" Darrin should probably stick to writing about casseroles and Halloween costumes.
