Absolutely Out of Control

Heather Dekin
Unable to function as a normal human being
Without the aid of some strong supplement
Some over the counter and others from another venue
Can't go to sleep unless two shots of Nyquil are swallowed
As well as two Melatonin and some Vicks Vapor Rub in the process
Need to breathe and and relax on a very narrow work week time table
One so tiny that one minute missing feels like 20 long ones
Vodka Martinis becoming the depressed suburbanite's best friend
A stress reliever with a twist of lemon, lime and some fruit juice
To give it a seasonal kick and to appear more festive
And hide the fact that it's more of a necessity than a treat
Only happy when under a cloud of Tylenol Sinus and Advil
For the headache that seeped into the brain and every muscle
Going through the extreme tremors and floor pacing
Wearing a large cornfield size hole in the hardwood floor
Wondering when the insanity is going to end
Before or after the irremovable Harry Houdini straitjacket
Looking to run into one of the rubber room walls
Waiting for the silence or sleep to come
By any means necessary, that isn't permanent
Something that can be taken back when the time comes
Even if it's group therapy trying to make blanket amends
For the past, present and future misdeeds
Got to have that covered because accidents do happen
Or so it's been sad.
