Abuse Survivor, Josh Osborne, Will Undergo a Kidney Transplant in June

The on-going story of Josh Osborne really pulls at the heart strings. As an infant he was the youngest child to ever have a heart transplant in the state of Tennessee. Then his life at home took a turn for the worse at the hands of his abusive father and step-mother. When police officers found Josh at the age of 15, he weighed only 50 lbs and was severely dehydrated. Both his father, James Osborne and his step-mother, Christy Osborne, were sentenced to prison for their abuse and neglect of Josh.

Now as a result of the years of abuse, Josh Osborne is enduring dialysis treatments for kidney failure. Nine hours each day, seven days a week for the past three years, Josh Osborne has been hooked up to a kidney dialysis machine. It has taken a toll on his physical strength, but not on his outlook on life. Josh appears to be as positive and upbeat as he always has been since his story of abuse first became public.

Christy Osborne has been released from prison, but Josh's father, James Osborne, is still in jail. There was a small glimmer of hope that he might have some degree of compassion for his own son and agree to be tested to see if he could donate a kidney in order to spare the life of his son. That did not happen. Instead, Josh's father denies that he even abused Josh and says he will seek out his son once he is released from prison. As usual, his statement comes with a certain air of control, which does not seem to allow Josh much choice in the matter. However, I think this father will be very surprised to find a son of such strength waiting to define the boundaries and limits he wishes to place on their relationship. You see, Josh Osborne is a survivor in every sense of the word.

In spite of his father's decision, Josh has a kidney donor in a very caring 19-year-old cousin, Jacob Parsons. Many other strangers who have been touched by Josh's story have offered their kidney to Josh but Jacob is the only match.

Donating an organ to anyone is a huge act of compassion and kindness, but Jacob Parsons sees it as a very simple matter. "I've got a kidney and Josh needs one. It really doesn't get much more complicated than that."

Jake (Jacob) Parsons is still undergoing more tests and if all goes well, Josh Osborne will receive one of his kidneys in June.
