AC Devil 2010 NFL Midseason Awards

The 2010 NFL regular season is halfway done and there's plenty to discuss. Thursday night football games are already upon us, one coach has been canned and Donovan McNabb was benched for Rex Grossman when no injury had occurred. It's also time to hand out some midseason awards to coaches, players and teams. Unfortunately, we here at the AC Devil couldn't contact the winners in time to hand out the awards. Instead, we'll be mailing out $10 gift certificates for Olive Garden. Enjoy the soup, salad and breadsticks, fellas!

2010 NFL midseason awards: Team That Makes Me Happiest to Watch Award

Winner: Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys were a guaranteed lock to win the NFC East back in early September, with some people picking them to go 12-4. Oh, how the mighty have fallen. The Failboys have lost five straight, fired their head coach, lost their starting quarterback for (if they're smart) the remainder of the regular season and their offensive line, defensive backs and pretty much everybody not named "Dez Bryant" actually stopped playing anything that resembles football after week 8. Big props go out to my beloved football Giants for officially sinking the Dallas ship on October 25. Really, everything's been coming up Milhouse for the Giants since the first weekend in October. Good times in that department.

2010 NFL midseason awards: Superman Award

Winner: Peyton Manning

Calling Manning the "MVP" just isn't enough in 2010. The future Hall of Famer has been without pretty much every offensive weapon on the Indy roster at some point during the season, yet Manning remains in the top five or higher in practically every meaningful QB statistic. Even more amazing, the Colts are 5-3 and tied for first in the division. Manning doesn't deserve a trophy. He should get his own statues, one for every city block in Indianapolis.

2010 NFL midseason awards: Least Impressive Best Quarterback in Football Award

Winner: Colt McCoy

Statistically speaking, McCoy has hardly been marvelous in three starts for the Browns. He hasn't thrown a touchdown in two straight games and he completed only nine passes in Cleveland's upset win against New Orleans in week seven. There's no denying, however, that the Browns have been playing with more confidence, even somewhat of a swagger, with McCoy on the field. McCoy is a winner. He has been his entire life. The Browns would be foolish to play anybody but the rookie at QB for the rest of the season.

2010 NFL midseason awards: They Had it Comin' Award

Winner: Minnesota Vikings

Scotty, a die hard Vikes fan and friend of mine, will tell you that Minnesota deserves to be no better than 3-5 at the halfway point of the season. He's absolutely right. The team trotted Hollywood Brett Favre's remains onto the field, only for Favre to be practically worthless for all but seven minutes against a terrible Arizona team. Minnesota then traded for Randy Moss, only to drop him just a few weeks after the move because, well, he's Randy Moss.

2010 NFL midseason awards: Best Feud in Football Award

Winner: Mike Shanahan vs. Donovan McNabb

If everything I have read on the Internet is true (and isn't it always?), Washington head coach Mike Shanahan believes that Donovan McNabb doesn't have the "cardiovascular endurance" to run the two-minute drill as effectively as that All Pro gunslinger named Rex Grossman, and that McNabb still doesn't know the Washington playbook. McNabb finds such allegations to be "hilarious," and he will continue to be the team's starter for the time being. You just know this one is going to get more fun as November changes to December.

2010 NFL midseason awards: People That Don't Get It Award

Winner: NFL fans that complain about penalties/fines/suspensions regarding certain hits

I've already talked about this subject enough. No need to get into it again.

2010 NFL midseason awards: Guy That Teaches Me More About Football Each Week Award

Winner: Chris Collinsworth

I used to be down on Collinsworth when he was in the studio during NBC's three hour Football Night in America pregame show. Since moving to the booth, however, Collinsworth has gone from good to pretty good to really good to best color man in the NFL. There are two types of NFL fans; those that appreciate Collinsworth, and idiots.
