AC Headquarters (how I Picture it in My Mind)

MJ
The Internet is a wonderful medium and I use it to the max. I don't know anything about it, nor where the Internet's Headquarters are, but there you go. If you have a complaint, there is probably a very small office somewhere in someone's backyard, disguised as a garage with a sign: "Headquarters Internet". Since nobody knows where this is, no complaints will be in this mailbox, not ever. The CEO could be a dog or a goldfish, for all we know.

This is not to say that AC has the same set-up. They do exist, because I'm sending them articles, and they send me e- mails. I have this mental picture of a building like the headquarters of the FBI. A nice building set in a park-like setting, in the middle of nowhere. The people who are employed by AC need quiet around them, in order to read all these thousands of articles. They do this outside, on padded park-benches, with no other noise than the birds singing. Because they can't stop for lunch, there are fully trained chefs walking around all day, outside, asking the employees what they might want for lunch. This is subsequently brought to the park bench, where they can eat it without stopping the reading-process.

Inside the building it is a very different story. A buzz of activity, lifts going up and down, people shouting as on the stock-market. "Hey, listen to this story......" every couple of seconds as the stories come in. They like to place bets too. This fact is not known among the CEO's. But every morning it's the same:bets on who has written the most articles, who has the best story, on it goes. They have no phones there. This would distract the AC people too much, besides, this is no ordinary office; talking to your family can be done after hours, if there was such a thing.

It is encouraged by Management to bring pajamas and slippers. They want employees to stay and read, through the night. At a certain point someone who was a boy-scout when he was young, wanted a campfire., have sing-along in the evenings. This was dismissed, this was going a bit far. TV's are banned from the premises also. That sort of activity is fine for the masses out there; when you work for AC you are a bit above that. AC people don't mind, they've never even seen a TV so they don't miss it at all. Because they practically live there, they don't have to do any of the things ordinary people do, like shopping. As long as they keep on reading, the CEO's are so happy with them they do the shopping for them.

Of course I'm not sure if this is reality or a fragment of my rather fertile imagination. But I am just a bit curious how it really works, so who knows, we might see pictures, or get a story from these hard-working folks?

I never knew I could write until I joined AC. I paint, I write, love animals and ironing. (no not the last one but it looked better).  View profile
