As my frustration grew and grew. I fired off my final email to Associated letting them know. If this is how they pay their writers than perhaps I would not be listing my work here any longer. I received an email with a transaction number and asking me to call Pay pal to see what the problem was.
Now after many days of reeling in my frustration. I had gotten angry. The situation I felt had grown far beyond my control and no human force would correct it. I felt sure Associated had been the one at fault and I would just cut my losses and move forward.
So I began to re-read my book on how to submit to magazines. I found this frustrating in itself. I am not a great researcher. And I find my temperament pretty much shot after fifteen minutes of reading over and over. We do not use new writers. Now I am feeling so frustrated as a wanna be full time writer. I am closing in on tears or punching something. Leaning more towards the tears. Which would be better since my hands are showing signs of some undiagnosed arthritic changes.
I went to check my email account for one last hurrah. I had produced numerous poems in the days previous and wanted to get them out to the masses. My masses seem a bit less than my ego believes I ought to have.
Any way in my email I found one more sent from Associated Help desk. And this one contained the magic transaction number. With another request to contact Pay pal. I was assured that associated had indeed compensated me.
The amount we are talking about is merely enough to get me my favored cheese burger. But dam it, we are talking about a cheese burger now.
Armed with my tiny glimpse of hope I dialed the number for Pay pal. A young voice came on, he identified himself as Emmanuel. Perhaps some unorthodox sense of humor by a higher power. This young man listened intently. Repeating some of what I had stated. Then he told me this transaction number would do me no good. I again fell into immediate rage. I paused, gained composer and said. "Emmanuel why would they give me this number if you can not use it?" He replied. "I can see if it helps us but I doubt it will, please hold while I investigate this, thank you."
I felt an eternity had passed me by. I even read two articles while waiting. So someone at Associated got two hits today. The nice calm voice came back on. "Mr. Jasper so sorry to keep you waiting, it seems you have two accounts. We are not sure how this happened perhaps a glitch in our system. But I see the money you stated is there. We will immediately credit your newer account and close the old one. This should correct any further issues. Thank you for your patience. Is there any thing else I may help you with today?"
I thanked this young man for all his help. I wanted to leap up but due to my undiagnosed arthritic knees I felt I would just give myself a hug for a job well done. My wife's face beamed with joy. She knew I would be calming down any day now. And perhaps we would continue with our joint venture at Associated Content.
