The AC Twitter challenge was very simple for me; we had to post our article links with #bestofac hash tags and we had to retweet AC's sweeps tweets with #acsweeps hash tag. We had other rules to follow, such as completing an article assignment. The true benefit of participating in AC's Twitter Challenge is learning how to effectively promote our work. Think about how far you can reach an audience through Twitter; worldwide! There is no telling who all could be interested in your article or would be coming to read it.
Twitter is also a good tool for building a brand. I use Twitter for both Associated Content and my website. The blog entries I post are automatically linked to Twitter, and I can see in minutes visitors coming to read the latest on my website. The same works for my Associated Content articles, as I have an auto-post setup to link as soon as articles are published. I see results immediately as comments are published and in the morning my page views are updated. Twitter is also an easy way to breathe life into an old article, or even seasonal pieces that may be interesting in the next few weeks.
What did I learn from Associated Content's Twitter challenge? For one, it proved my belief that Twitter is an excellent promotional tool. I had posted several news pieces and trend articles such as FarmVille cheats. In part to this promotion, I had my highest page views ever on Associated Content! In September I made $74.79 in page view bonus alone. My October page views are close to 100,000 with half a month to go. I could possibly reach 200,000 page views in October and mostly thanks to Twitter.
Why does Twitter work so well for Associated Content writers? It is free and it takes seconds to setup your auto-post tool. After that, there is no work to be done. The link is automatically sent out to Twitter each time you publish. It is also easy to retweet and re-post links and titles of your articles, if you ever need a page view boost.
Socializing with other writers on Twitter
I enjoy having Twitter conversations with fellow Associated Content writers. Sometimes there is a few of us having a discussion or making jokes. I also like promoting other people's work with my Twitter. I have over 3,000 Twitter followers and some of my writer friends are still working on their following. I feel that I can help them out by posting links to their articles in my Twitter account. After all, socializing and helping out a fellow writer benefits all of us.
I follow several interesting people on Twitter. These are just a few writers who have been tremendously helpful in my writing career and have supported my work.

I of course follow Associated Content and keep up with the latest updates. I enjoy it when AC posts Contributor milestones, so that we can celebrate hard work and congratulate our fellow writers.

I am learning a lot from all the Twitter challenge articles. I haven't joined yet, but plan to in the near future. Everyone seems to agree that it is a great promotional tool.
I didn't do the Twitter challenge but I have just set up my auto-post for Facebook and Twitter; I will try and follow more AC producers from now on as posting on Twitter alone doesn't do very much for pageviews.
Great article. I use twitter too!
Awesome, Nina. :)
Had to come back and say, just joined Twitter due in part to the many helpful articles by friends like you here at AC! @sheryltruth.
