AC Twitter Challenge- What a Novice Learned

Tweet, Tweet Deedle-eet- 140 Characters? Don't Let that Fool You!

Loraine Alkire
Twitter me this? I'm still having trouble getting around tweet-ville and all the possibilities, so don't expect to learn much from this article. Except perhaps, if I can do it you can too. I do believe that joining tweet a few months back has increased awareness for my blog, website (which is in horrible disarray) and in general connecting with FB friends and associates.

What I have I learned? I've recently learned how to re-tweet others work and my own. This is a great time saving feature that allows me to help others by posting them to my FB and twitter pages. I've been re-tweeted by Lyn Lomasi. That felt pretty good and certainly couldn't have hurt my page views. I've also learned to Re-tweet some of my favorites

As a writer, social networking falls below writing itself and just above picking up the phone or invoicing my clients. You'd think I would love to invoice clients, the sooner the better, as it means money in my pocket but to me it's work! Ugh that word again.

There are so many add-ons to tweet that it's impossible for me to keep up. I recently added retweetmeme.com to my blog. I'm not sure what it is supposed to do but it was an HTML application that was easy to install on blogspot.com. A few months back I added another easy HTML application to my blog that is more of a widget for my tweets on twitter. It also asks you to follow me on twitter with a hyper-link. So that's pretty cool. I really love cut and paste HTML and Twitter has plenty of it.

I Tweet all of my articles and every time I do I seem to get a new follower on tweet. I'm curious as to whether these people ever come back but I don't know how to manage tweet stats (yet), though I'm sure it exists. It seems almost everything you can imagine exists on Twitter if you look for it. Many of these applications seem to be third party apps that people have created out of a need to do something on twitter that didn't already exist.

I still don't know how to utilize most of the applications from tweetpics to co-tweet (described as a business application for businesses using Twitter). I am proud of myself for making http://www.tiny.cc/ one of my favorites. It allows you to shorten a long URL before posting so you can add a preface or summary in your short 140 characters.

All of this is old hat for REAL tweeters, for now I'm just catching up. One thing I failed to do in this contest was rehash the content with #ACarticles, duh.... just went right out of this little pea brain. So I'm sure I won't come even within ten miles of winning this contest. On the other hand it forced me to focus on Twitter for a bit to see what it could provide for me, my clients and associates.

I'm sure all I have to do is ask a savvy seven year old and my Twitter confusion will bare light, until then I'll just poke around and hope to find the 'missing' link that connects it all. One thing for sure is that if I read and follow the Pros after this contest, (I'll be more confused than ever) but I'm sure I will have gained a few tools that will be useful in the long run.

Thanks for the info! I think I'm Twitter challenged although I do tweet other writers' work.

I'm still learning, like you. Retweeting confuses me! I like Examiner because it's easy to Tweet other writer's articles.

Hi Amber, I really good test once you've built up a few followers is to retweet something that hasn't gotten any page views in a long time. Then check to see if it gets some. :) good to see you, here:)

I haven't had any success with Twitter yet, but time will tell! :)

I was so proud of myself when I joined Facebook and had trouble enough figuring it out. Now everyone says Twitter is the way to go. It's hard to keep up!

I wish you well, but it's not anything I even want to get started with. FB is enough of a bother as it is.

I guess I really need to check out twitter

Loraine, I'm even more confused about Twitter than you are! I hope to learn more, too, but right now it's just not that important to me. I tweet links to my AC and Examiner articles once, when they're first published, and that's about it.

LOL at Linda!! I don't know..I'm trying, but you're way ahead of me..I can't retweet, I can't figure out the tiny thing in fact for a long time, I thought a bunch of dwarfs somewhere had started a business shrinking URL's for a living..but..you had that link, so maybe that's how you do it..and actually, I just hate twittering..or tweeting..or twits!! :) Thanks ACMOB! whatever that is...

I did learn something from this, Lorraine. But I forget what. It's all just amazing to me.
