I discovered some intriguing tidbits about AC writers and decided to delve deeper into the world of the people behind the writing. Many writers here have atypical backgrounds, jobs, hobbies, quirks and passions.
I thought it would be fun and enlightening to share some of their individual lives with readers. You will be pleasantly surprised, often amazed, intrigued and at times humored by; things I unearth about some of our fellow AC Contributors. This is the fourth article in this series.
Theresa Wiza - Beautiful Great Grandmother - Paranormal Connoisseur
Theresa has been a Contributor at AC since June of 2008. Her writing covers a broad scope of marvelous material, which reflects not only her insights as a daycare provider, but also expands on her foremost interest in the world of paranormal phenomenon and spirituality.
She has a fondness for controversial topics and is not the least bit intimidated when it comes to putting her beliefs out there for the world to see. Her articles about certain aspects of her life are honest, compelling and well worth a read. Theresa has four children, is the doting grandmother of ten and great-grandmother of two!
Theresa's Recent Diagnosis of Breast Cancer
Theresa, diagnosed with breast cancer in late September, shares through writing, the personal journey she is on to battle and beat cancer with every fiber of her being. You can read the first two parts of her bold story here and here. About her cancer, Theresa said, "I am fighting this wicked invader with every ounce of strength I have in me and I am even borrowing strength from other people through their prayers."
Theresa is a dear friend of mine and we actually share a spot as the featured paranormal writers on another site. I know personally that she has taken on breast cancer with a major no-nonsense attitude, which includes delightful doses of humor.
Theresa had gorgeous, long hair and was acutely aware she would be losing her hair when the chemo treatments started. Once that process kicked in, she dealt with the problem directly and bravely shaved her head rather than endure a drawn-out hair-loss drama. That is how she is!
After her hair was gone, Theresa had a photo taken of her wearing a wig, placed it side by side with a photo of her mother, who was sporting the same hairdo as the wig and sent it to me in an email. She exclaimed how much she now resembled her mom. Her lovely sense of humor has not taken a back seat to the cancer she is dealing with. I want to note, though, Theresa's energy level is extremely low from chemo and surgery, forcing her to do her writing from her bed these days.
Theresa on Ghosts, UFOs and Spirituality
Theresa makes it clear about her personal believes concerning the unknown saying, "Some people think that just because I believe in the paranormal, I am somehow evil." "They couldn't be further from the truth." "I am deeply spiritual and genuinely respect and am deeply in awe of God, the Higher Power, the Holy Spirit and whatever other names people use to identify that Divine Presence that unites us all."
Theresa's passion for the mysteries of life beyond the here and now dates back to when she was young. "I tried ESP experiments when I was a kid and discovered how well they work." "Paranormal, metaphysical and spiritual subjects both electrify me and mystify me." I am spellbound by the intangible aspects of our world."
Having experienced her share of paranormal occurrences, Theresa told me, "I have seen a UFO and I have been touched by a ghost." "What more could somebody who has always been interested in the unseen aspects of life ask for?" Read some fascinating accounts of Theresa's ghostly encounters here. One of the stories about a male friend who died in Vietnam is especially intriguing.
Jobs along the Way & Blogging
Some of the jobs Theresa has had over the years include cocktail waitress, secretary, hospital admitting officer, graphic designer, desktop publishing instructor and of course, her current line of work, daycare provider. Writing takes front and center for her, though and she is a diligent blogger.
Theresa recounted humorously, "I especially love it when, in the midst of a funny event or after somebody in the family (or even one of my friends) has said something particularly amusing, I get "the look" and the command, "Do NOT blog about this!" "Well, except for my one granddaughter, who insists I don't blog about her enough, I can't help myself so I blog about them anyway and disguise their names." If you stumble across a blog about someone named Beebeeshababa, you will know it is Theresa!
What Does the Future Hold?
The principal item on Theresa's plate right now is dealing with her cancer, the treatments and the road back to life the way it was for her. She knows this will be her focus at least through next October, which she just found out.
Her thoughts on this process, though, are so typical. She said, "...I was kind of disheartened by this news, but considering my whole life span, one year is nothing...and it gives me time to write when I am not too exhausted."
I know with Theresa's strength, she will be back on her feet soon and living life to the fullest again. Many thanks, Theresa, for sharing some of your private life with AC readers and best of luck in all your writing endeavors.
