Academy Award Movie Trailer Parody

Rooster Cogburn
This movie trailer parody comes from the folks at BriTANick. They do great work, but this is one their best creations. It's called the Academy Award Winning Movie Trailer.

The trailer opens with the line by a hipster looking guy who says "A toast, establishing me as the wealthy protagonist." This sets the stage for the brand of humor they use here. They got the music perfect here too. It sounds just like one of the trailers you would expect for one of "those" movies. The main character's friend shares concern that something is missing in his life. This follows the same formula for exposition that we see so much in dramatic trailers.

Next up, a social worker drops by and dumps a handicapped boy with a "topical disability". Hollywood does love to pick out a disability that is in vogue, which makes this extra funny. This scene is right from the style of Rain Man. The duo then meet up with the main character's love interest. This keeps the same spoof theme of the formula for these types of trailers. The main character says "my name" and the girl responds with " my name".

Keeping with the formula, the music turns dark and things get dramatic. A string of movie cliches get brought out next. Divisions between characters, betrayal, and helping a minority teenager become literate. The trailer closes out with the sappy music and the lists of accomplishments of the actors. They even manage to capture the usual slow motion you see at the end of one of these.

The way these guys were able to capture the ridiculous way these movies take themselves too seriously is spot on. The production value is great and adds to the amusement. The actors did a great job being over the top and keeping the tongue-in-check throughout the production. Do yourself a favor and enjoy this fantastic parody.
