The 83rd Academy Award nominations for 2011 were announced this morning (January 25) and while 'The King's Speech' led with 12 nominations, 'True Grit' received 10, and other big contender 'The Social Network' followed with 8 nods, including Director (David Fincher) and Adapted Screenplay (Aaron Sorkin).

Colin Firth received stellar raves and reviews for his role as King George VI who struggled with a stammering problem during his lifetime. Of the 12 nominations for 'The King's Speech', Firth said in a statement, "Currently celebrating with my colleagues three feet above the ground. Not used to this much joy, or this much Champagne at this hour."

Along with Firth, Helena Bonham Carter and Geoffrey Rush were nominated for their supporting roles in the film.

'The King's Speech' along with 'The Social Network' (which won the Golden Globes Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Score) will vie for Best Picture along with 'True Grit', 'Inception', and 'Black Swan'.

Firth will go up against Jeff Bridges ('True Grit'), Javier Bardem ('Biutiful'), Jesse Eisenberg ('The Social Network') and James Franco ('127 Hours') for Best Actor.

For the Best Actress Category, Natalie Portman ('Black Swan') will face off with Annette Bening ('The Kids Are All Right'), Nicole Kidman ('Rabbit Hole'), Jennifer Lawrence ('Winter's Bone') and Michelle Williams for her role in 'Blue Valentine'.
