Access for the Blind: Best Music Producing, Sound Editing, Recording Software

Reina Brown
Music means the world to a lot of blind people. It is not uncommon that one will come across a blind person who is in love with singing and producing their own music. Sadly, though, there is not a lot of music producing software and sound editing and recording software that is accessible. The developers of such software rarely think of the blind when they produce the software. Blind musicians must spend a lot of time searching and trying numerous types of said software until they find one that is accessible enough for them to operate. If you are a blind musician who is running into the problem of finding good music producing and sound editing and recording software that you can use, look no further because the below recommendations are just what you need.

First, we will start with a program called Gold Wave. This is a sound editing and recording program that allows you to record music, as well as podcasts, and you can add special effects to these recordings. One of the special effects that you can add to the recording include the ability to make the recording sound as if it took place in a concert hall, a room, or in a professional recording studio, as one can achieve professional quality depending on the type of mike used. Another awesome effect is the ability to change the pitch of the singer. Many blind people love playing with sounds and pitches, thus will find this effect to be quite fun. Then, there is the ability to add an echo to the recording. Should you want to make your recording loop that is possible also. The only downside to this program is that one cannot lay tracks.

Audacity, on the other hand is a sound recording and editing program that does allow the user to lay tracks. If you should desire to record a song or another type of recording that will require you to lay multiple tracks that is no problem at all, as it can be easily done. Audacity can easily be operated through the use of the drop down menus or through simple keystrokes, and it works well with screen reading software. This program does not have all of the cool effects that Gold Wave does; nevertheless, it will allow you to produce a professional recording. As a matter of fact, this program is so great, it is as if you have a professional recording studio right in your house. Some effects that Audacity does include, however, is the ability to add an echo to the file, the ability to change pitch, and the ability to fad in and out, as if the song were recorded professionally in a studio. Audacity will allow you to achieve the highest and most professional quality when recording, but please keep in mind that this is all contingent on the type of mike that you use. A mike with head phones is most advisable. Furthermore, do not use Audacity 1.2.6 or earlier, as those programs are not accessible and will not cooperate with screen readers at all.

Finally, there is Wave pad. This program is a screen reader friendly program that not only supports a number of audio formats-MP3, wav, aug, aif, flac, gsm, realAudio, and vox among other things-it is designed with the professional sound editor in mind. This program can be used at no cost, and it is not complex to work in the least bit. In a matter of minutes, you can have your sound editing files recorded and edited to sound as if a professional recorded and produced them.

With these programs, it is possible for you to get to work doing what you love. You can produce some fine works and lose yourself in the world of music. Best of all, you do not have to fight with the software and your screen reader to get them to cooperate the way that you want.
