Accident Prone or Cursed?

Theresa L.

Accidents happen all the time. Sometimes, it can be as simple as tripping over your own feet. However, I sometimes wonder if I am accident prone or simple cursed. After all, I have the scars to prove it.

During my youth ever year at the same time, and I mean every year at the same time, I would wipe out on my bicycle. My bicycle accidents was my Fourth of July tradition, in a not so funny way, because every year on the Fourth of July I would have to go the emergency room for stitches.

I mention that because a couple of weeks ago my husband was looking at my knee and made the comment I had the strangest looking scar. When I told him that it was actually more than one scar he did not believe me.

According to him, it was simple not possible for someone to get injured in the same place over and over again. In the end he had to call my mother to find out if I was really that accident prone and, of course, she told him all about my holiday tradition.

It took until the summer before the 7th grade for me to smarten up and stop riding a bicycle. That summer I will never forget because the day after I wiped out I had to have surgery done on my foot. To say it was a lousy summer was an understatement, since I had a knee brace on one leg and a cast on the opposite foot. Yet the summer my son broke his leg was probably worse, but that is a story for a different time.

However, I grew up and thought my accident prone days were behind me. Now I just break my toe... the same toe.

It began four years ago when I was pregnant with my second son. We were remodeling our house and had 2x8 or 2x10... the really long boards you use for walls piled in the hallway. I woke up in the middle of the night and walked right into them, breaking my little bitty baby toe.

I break it again couple of times after that, but it was the one in July I won't forget. I was pregnant over the summer and having problems. I was put on best rest for premature labor, etc. I had got up and and break it again.

I normally have a sweet deposition, but that time it hurt, and I screamed. My husband ran thinking I was in labor. When he asked me if I was alright I used language a sailor would use before stating I broke my toe again.

His answer - To have it cut off that I didn't need it before laughing his way to the living room.

I bring up my story because I am in so much pain at the moment and my foot is swollen up. You see, yesterday I went to go take a shower and guess what happens. I broke my little bitty baby toe again. So now, as I dwell in the fact I can't walk, I have to ask myself if I am simple cursed or just accident prone.

Sorry you are in pain. I don't think I am as accident prone as I used to be.
