Acer AS-5253: Budget Laptop with an Irresistible Appeal

Joey Liam
I recently purchased an Acer AS-5253 laptop from a local branch of Fry's Electronics in San Diego and so far, I am very satisfied with its performance. It is as good as advertised and most of the reviews that I have read about this notebook were on target. Before I purchased this Acer notebook, I perused pages of consumer reviews and weighed all the pros and cons about this model. Without fail, I found some resentments about this notebook but after I am done with my research, the good reviews overshadowed the bad ones quite tremendously.

Netbook in a Laptop Body

One review that caught my attention came from a consumer who stated that "Acer AS-5253 has been built with netbook parts." True enough, when I performed some more research, I discovered that indeed some of the parts used to build this laptop were originally used for netbook units. There is definitely nothing wrong with that because Acer AS-5253 is not a netbook at all. It may have some parts in it that were originally meant only for netbook but this model is a bona fide laptop. And even if others categorize it as a netbook, it does not really concern me because if all netbooks are like this, I will be purchasing a lot more of Acer AS-5253.

Technical Specifications

The Acer AS-5253 laptop is not for gamers but if you like watching videos and an aspiring movie editor like myself, then this notebook will work great for you. It is powered by Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, which will allow you to install up to a maximum of 8 gigabytes of memory (DDR3). Last time I checked, most netbooks can only handle 1 gigabyte of memory so people should stop categorizing the Acer AS-5253 as a netbook. Its processor, the AMD Dual-Core E-350, however, has been built for use with netbooks but as far as I am concerned, it is powerful enough to make a laptop run like a desert stallion: swift and dynamic. The Acer AS-5253 is also equipped with built-in mic and web camera, 802.11b/g/n wireless LAN, HDMI port and an ATI Radeon HD 6310 graphics card, which makes it a dependable entertainment system. Most of all, it costs less than $500. I actually bought mine for only $379.

This may not be the most popular laptop but for me, it is the next best thing invented after the microwave oven. In all seriousness, if you like to purchase or looking for a reliable laptop, go no further. Try the Acer AS-5253 and you will be a one happy individual like me.

Great review. My old Acer laster over six years. Just bought a new one, not sure if it was this model or not, but I'm having trouble getting used to the keyboard. Good to see you back, as well!

That price astounds me! I paid about twice as much for my HP Pavillion and it sounds like you are extremely satisfied. BTW - nice to have you posting again, and hope to read more of your fine articles in the near future. rcj
