Acer Aspire 5740-6378 Laptop Review

John Rivers
You can consider the Acer Aspire 5740-6378 laptop definitely a mid-end computer. Although it is powerful enough to run simple and common software and it has 15.6- inch screen, with all necessary inputs and outputs, Acer Aspire 5740-6378 still remains in the mid-range category when compared to other products.

Acer Aspire 5740-6378 has a big screen which makes it good for watching movies but it lacks a decent graphics card, so playing top games on it will not be possible. Battery life is also just in the middle range. Aspire 5740-6378 is not consider to be a very fast computer but I would like to say that it isn't one of the slowest either and for the price of 800 dollars you could consider its performance quite fair, off course one could still want a bit more.

Aspire 5740-6378 has a full keyboard including the num pad. The screen is quite big with a resolution of 1366 x 768. It weighs 5.8 pounds which is quite light. Acer Aspire is very comfortable and especially good because of its convenience when using it as a portable computer.

The system has got 4 Gigs of RAM and a solid 2.27GHz Core i5-430m processor. An x64 version of Windows 7 Home Premium comes preloaded with the system. Although 4GB of RAM is quite sufficient in gaming these days, gamers should be aware that Acer Aspire 5740-6378 will not run newest games at highest settings. In fact, because of the slow graphics processor, the newest games will be too hard for the Acer to manage.

Audio and video quality clearly reflects the price of the product. The text and video quality is fairly viewable through the glossy screen. The laptop is not very good when recreating low frequencies, in other words - it is hard to hear quality bass through laptop's speakers.

Acer Aspire 5740-6378 has a rich variety of components including all available ports that you will need, a 2-megapixel web camera which can capture video with sound.

All in all, Acer Aspire 5740-6378 is a definitely mid-end laptop computer. You will be satisfied running ordinary programs and multitasking but it lacks smooth video processing which is a big flaw for gamers. Its mid-range battery life is also a disappointment. But if you are looking for a laptop for $800, you should probably go for Acer Aspire 5740-6378 because its performance reflects its price.
