Achieve a Radiant Glow with These Highlighting Tricks

Highlighters and illuminators are the beauty secret of the stars and a great multi-tasking product to have on hand year round. When your complexion's looking a little dull or you don't want to deal bother with a facial self-tanner, a highlighter can help. Highlighters and illuminators can help you create a natural, radiant glow and even cover up some imperfections. However, you need to apply these products in a certain way to achieve that flawless look.

Use these tricks to achieve a radiant glow with a highlighter or illuminating powder:

1. Use a super-size makeup brush. Unlike other powdered makeup, the highlighter or illuminating powder needs to go on all over with a very light dusting. An oversized makeup brush or Kabuki brush can distribute powder evenly and without creating unsightly streaks. These brushes make it super easy to apply highlighting products like a pro, so invest in a good set of brushes if you want that flawless finish.

2. Use a cream highlighter to create a dewy look. If you want to create a natural, dewy look instead of a matte finish, use a cream highlighter that will add a touch of moisture to the skin. These highlighting products can be applied with your fingertips or a damp sponge to create a smooth, dewy finish.

3. Don't forget the lids! Apply a light layer of highlighting product to your eyelids and upper brow area to illuminate this area and give you a fresh, rejuvenated look. This is a great trick for brightening up your complexion without having to layer on the concealer. Cream highlighters and illuminators work best for the upper eye area, and can be a great touch-up solution when reapplying makeup in the middle of the day as well.

4. Mark the T-zone. If your skin's looking tired or you stayed out too late, use more of a highlighting product or illuminating powder over your T-zone to create a radiant glow. This creates a very subtle highlighting effect and can be effective for camouflaging those dark shadows and dull patches of skin.

5. Accentuate the cheekbones. A very light line of highlighter brushed onto the apples of your cheeks all the way up to the hairline can help to create the illusion of sculpted cheekbones. Apply highlighting or illuminating powder with a smaller brush and by using a circular motion for the full effect.
