Achieve Success by Acquiring Discipline and Reap the Benefits

Harris Kern-Life/Success Coach and IT Leader
As you can see from the impressive list below, acquiring discipline will change your life forever but it won't come easy. Will it be worth the investment? What do you think? Who wouldn't want all these attributes?

Accomplishment after accomplishment:

Ability to accomplish more than you ever thought possible. Not only will you be able to accomplish all your goals, you will never be satisfied with what you've already accomplished. The hunger and drive to accomplish more will stay with you for the rest of your life.

Sense of Urgency:

You'll know how to motivate yourself everyday of the year. Your mind will do it for you - ALWAYS. You will never procrastinate or waste time again. I actually have a very hard time relaxing or sleeping because my mind is always pushing me to go, go, and go! Once you train the mind you'll never be complacent again.

Perseverance and persistence:

With discipline you will never give up on any of your present or future endeavors. Quitting will not be in your vocabulary. You will have some obstacles and barriers along the way but you will do whatever it takes to avoid those obstacles and break down those barriers. You will never give up until you accomplish your goals.

Focus:

Remaining focused on your goals will help you to prosper in so many ways. There will be days when those outlandish and crazy goals are too much of a burden. Staying in bed and forgetting about everything is the easy way out. Never give up! It may sound like an old cliché, but you should do as all athletes do when the going gets tough: they dig down for a little something extra to accomplish those goals. I cannot overemphasize how important it is to stay focused on your goals.

Values:

You will believe, honor, and practice values i.e., sincerity, integrity, honesty, loyalty, respect, etc. You will be respected and admired by your friends, colleagues, and peers. What's really cool is when people who don't even know you personally will speak highly of you. This is when you know you've got it. Your advice will be solicited on all kinds of topics and you will find yourself mentoring people just about all the time. There is nothing more rewarding than being recognized for your values.

Wisdom

With discipline you will become a wiser person. I always like to say that a clever person solves a problem, and a wise person avoids it.

Positive attitude:

Regardless of the situation you will have a positive attitude. Everything will be in your reach. There is nothing you will not be able to conquer. Staying positive will also allow you to heal faster from mental and physical injuries. Being negative is a huge deterrent and will be a thing of the past.

Changing your attitude can change everything. This one is major because it is so powerful. Optimism can be learned. Some people seek professional counseling only to learn that they simply need to change their pessimistic view of things. Approach life with optimism and people will naturally be attracted to you. There is always a bright side if you look hard enough. Sometimes you may have to squint really hard to see it, but its there more often than not! Research shows that people who have a better sense of control tend to be most optimistic. I think pessimists have a distorted view of reality and optimists see things accurately. Decide to be happy and you will be happy - regardless of circumstances working against you. Practice being optimistic when training the mind - your happiness depends on it.

Courage:

You'll have the ability to take on challenges that you never dreamt possible whether they're professional or personal. You'll have the courage to take on the world. You'll be like an unstoppable snowball going downhill picking up speed (and qualities, of course) along the way. Just watch out for the trees (or obstacles) along the way.

Feeling secure:

You'll feel secure about everything i.e., relationships, career, financial planning, accomplishing goals, etc. You will be beaming with confidence to take on all challenges. That's the great thing about having discipline, it's just like having dignity or any other attribute, and no one can take that away from you. You'll go from being a question mark to being a living, breathing exclamation point! You know where you are going and you will get there come hell or high water.

Confidence:

You'll be oozing with confidence. You will be able to take on any challenge regardless of the degree of difficulty. You will have the will and determination to succeed at anything. You now have confidence to take on the world. You can accomplish whatever you desire. Nothing can stop you from completing those goals - absolutely nothing. This newfound confidence is not cockiness. Your mind is so well trained it knows what it can do and it also knows what its limitations are. Your mind will not let your head swell. If you let that happen then you'd have to widen all the doors in your house to fit your inflated head through them. You don't want to waste your time or money on renovations that could be avoided. Heed the warning signs.

Knowledge:

You'll have a continuous thirst for knowledge. It's that feeling of not ever wanting to stop learning whether it's about a new career, additional education, travel, reading books, or everyday experiences.

Live and learn. You can't have one without the other. Once you stop learning you will immediately stop growing. We all need to keep searching for those things that will make us better. If seeking knowledge were not important for mankind then we'd all be living like Fred and Wilma Flintstone and Barney and Betty Rubble.

Enthusiasm:

You'll be upbeat and enthusiastic for everything you take on. You'll have it for every aspect of life. To accomplish your many new goals you can't be upbeat one day and down another. Having a true purpose in life lends itself to enthusiasm. People who are self-absorbed are severely lacking in enthusiasm. Look outside of yourself often to find what's good about the world around you. Then go about making contributions in your corner of the world to make it better. This is another highly addictive attribute.

Energy:

Your mind will be your greatest ally giving you the physical energy to keep you strong to take on these many challenges. Your mind and body will become a powerful force, a source of relentless energy. It's the greatest tool you'll possess for the rest of your existence on this planet. When you're running your life as a business you can't help but be energetic. Things will always be happening to keep you going because this is how you function best.

Happiness:

It may sound corny but because you're taking full advantage of your life and accomplishing more than ever before you can't help but be happy. I have been telling people for as long as I can remember that if I died today I would die happy. I have always done what I set out to do, bask in the glory of my accomplishments and lived to tell about it. Life's journey is as fun as reaching the destination. I've done more in my life than most people I know because I began setting and accomplishing goals in my early teens. Every struggle was a life lesson that I cherish. Never having to depend on anyone but myself for my happiness was and always will be important to me. Because I am disciplined happiness is another benefit that comes along with the territory.

Never being satisfied:

Probably not what most people tell you is it? Shouldn't this say be satisfied with what you have? No it shouldn't! Once you acquire discipline you will never be satisfied with what you have whether it is career, physical appearance, knowledge, etc. You will always be hungry and I'm not talking about your favorite fast food place that advertises relentlessly when you're at your weakest! Staying hungry is the key to success. Always remember - don't settle. Settle for more.

Being Consistent:

Being consistent means being energetic and upbeat every day of the week regardless of the situation. In your attempt to acquire discipline you can't be full of energy and up one day and running on empty on other days. There will be those days where you'll have personal issues to deal with as we all do. You may be feeling down for a few hours or even a day or two depending on the situation but being consistent means being able to rebound as quickly as possible and continue your normal routine.

You'll be focused on your priorities, goals and milestones every day of the week and having enough energy without drinking 5 cups of coffee a day. The secret to excelling in every facet of life (i.e., health, career, finances, etc.) is consistency.

Efficient in Time Management

With discipline comes efficiency. You will think twice before wasting precious minutes ever again.

The only negative aspect of acquiring discipline is that it will be difficult to relax at times. Your mind and body are in a different mode now - full speed ahead!
