Millions of people are affected by the skin problem acne. Most people suffer from acne at least once in their lifetime, while others get a severe case of acne problem. In some cases acne problems are mild and last for only a short period of time. Those who suffer from severe acne, the skin problem can be ongoing and impact them physically, emotionally and mentally.

Fortunately, there are many solutions that can help prevent acne. If you are an acne sufferer the following tips may help you combat acne and make them disappear.

First thing to do is to keep your face clean to prevent acne breakout. However do not use cleansers that are too harsh for your face because they can make your acne problem worse. You also don't want to scrub your face to get it cleaner as it gets rid of your skins essential oils, and will end up making your acne problem worse.

There are two things that can either cause or make your acne worse, they are oil and bacteria. Anything that you put to your face can transfer either of them to your skin. Your hair, the phone, your hand and even glasses you wear can cause acne.

Therefore keep your hair tied back (especially if it's oily), avoid putting your chin in your hands when reading a book, and clean your glasses both the frame and lenses regularly. Keep things off your face.

An old wives tale suggests exposing your skin to the sun to get rid of acne. However like most old wives tale, this one is also not true. Getting a mild tan can make the acne appear mild and less noticeable but it does not get rid of it. Instead the exposure to the sun will make your acne worse, as the heat from the sun will make your skin glands make natural oil, which will in the end clog your pores. Therefore if you have problem with acne it is best that you avoid direct sunlight.

You also have to watch what you eat. There is another myth that eating chocolates, pizzas and other greasy food can cause acne. This is however just that, a myth. Some people do have reactions to certain food which will cause a breakout of acne.

Therefore the next time you eat something and you get a reaction to it, take note of what it is and whether it happens again when you eat it again. If it does, avoid that food, as it could be partly blamed.
