Obesity and Acomplia
Obesity is the most common nutritional disorder in the western industrialized countries. It occurs due to excess accumulation of fat in the body from consuming to many fatty foods. The growing need for drugs to treat this condition has stimulated researchers to find a solution.
Acomplia works by unlocking the binds to the neuronal CB1 by blocking the endogenous cannabinoid. Simply put, it suppresses the appetite in the obese person.
Acomplia blocks food cravings thus reducing calorie intake and increasing weight loss. However, if you do not lower your intake of calories the drug is ineffective.
Research Trial
Pi-Sunyer, of the Obesity Research Center at St. Lucke's-Rosevelt Hospital Center in New York, enlisted more than three thousand overweight and obese adults forming the RIO-North America Study Group for the drug Acomplia., They were trained to eat a low calorie diet and to exercise. For the first month everyone received placebo pills, and nearly each participant lost a few pounds.
The group was split into three groups, one receiving a low dose Acomplia, the second a higher dose and the third received placebo pills. One year later half of the Acomplia group was taken off Acomplia and given placebo pills for the remaining year of the study.
The results found that the group on the low doses of Acomplia lost more weight than those in the placebo pill group and those on the higher dose if Acomplia lost an average of 10.5 pounds a year over the placebo group.
