To meet part of a contract agreement with VantagePoint Technologies, which was formerly known as Citigraphix, the city of Birmingham acquired a virtual reality model of the Downtown Central Business District in April 2001. The virtual reality model includes that entire area.
Since that time, the virtual reality model has undergone annual updates that denote changes in façade design and the designs of signs used in the Downtown Central Business District. This allows the model to remain a valuable asset when site plans and other changes in development are being considered.
