Acrostic Poetry Challenge - Earth

The Big Blue Marble - the Place We Call Home

Teresa Mahieu
Introduction

The acrostic poetry form is derived from the abecedarian style. The acrostic poet spells out names or words with the first letter of each line. The intent of the poem is to reveal while attempting to conceal within the acrostic.

Earth
Ever-changing but
Always
Round
Terra firma we call
Home.

Tutorial
A fun way to introduce someone to acrostic poetry is to have the person write out his or her name or the name of a pet (or feeling) on a piece of paper. The name should be written vertically.

T
E
R
E
S
A

Next have the person think of describing words that begin with each letter.

Terrific, Energetic, Romantic, Eclectic, Stand, Artist

Now ask the person to create a poem using these words.

Terrific crafter
Energetically creates
Romantic poetry with
Eclectic traits and then
Stands proud and proclaims
Artistry.

The acrostic poem could also simply describe a feeling such as

Scared
A
fraid
D
reamer

Acrostic poetry can be a therapeutic form of writing as well as a fun writing exercise for both adults and children.

I love this one. I'm glad you took the time to research what style poem this was; that is what makes a good writer :D And...anything dealing with the Earth is bound to be my favorite :P
