"Important Announcement: As of May 1, 2010, Associated Content will be making changes to our payment system that significantly impact Contributors who are not United States taxpayers.
After evaluating our payment policies in regard to international Contributors, our legal team has determined that Associated Content must immediately start withholding a portion of all international Performance Payments pursuant to U.S. tax laws. Due to the cost involved in this process, we can only offer continued Performance Payments to international Contributors enrolled in Associated Content's Featured Contributors program.
Contributors who are not enrolled as a Featured Contributor, or are not accepted into this program, will no longer be able to earn Performance Payments from Associated Content as of May 1, 2010..."
"Unfortunately, those who are not accepted as Featured Contributors will be unable to earn additional Performance Payments until further notice. We sincerely apologize to all international Contributors who are affected by this. These changes are occurring for legal reasons outside of our control. We strongly value your contributions to Associated Content, and hope to expand our new Performance Payment system to additional international Contributors in the future. You will be notified again if this occurs."
I didn't know what to feel. First, you all know that writers who are not U.S. residents are not qualified for upfronts. Now, we are no longer qualified for performance payments. Do I feel sad about it? Somehow yes because it always thrill me whenever I receive PayPal notices. But like what I always say, I do not write for AC for the money. I enjoy writing for AC because I want to share my faith to others and because of the friends I met, their encouraging comments, wit, humor and expertise!
So, to AC I'd say, thank you for the $3.00 I earned on my stint as a contributor here! And to my contributor-friends, you'll still see me around.

Post a CommentI agree with Becca! I'm sorry!
It is terrible how the international market always become excluded. I was only just getting started but will be looking to go elsewhere now
That would be really frustrating - I'm so sorry! I'm really glad you're still staying around though - I'm sure it would be hard to be motivating. But I really love your slideshows along with the accompanying scripture!
I'm sorry....
If you start writing somewhere else, post an article here so we can follow you!
Julie, I'm so glad that you'll keep writing for AC. I've enjoyed your articles and beautiful slideshows.
Wow - you know, I wonder if other countries have taxes and if so then wouldn't they be covered - to withhold a portion of an AC Cont. earnings would be double-taxing them. I think its awful about the featured contributor part - :( hopefully AC will change their minds on this
This is so heartbreaking Julie because we all get overwhelmed at times. I am overwhelmed with grief over losing such a faithful AC friend, whom to me are more like family, who not living in the U.S. are soon to depart. This really hurts. I grieve like I am losing a family member. I agree with the others, I beg you to stay in touch. I so have grown close to you as a friend and a sister in CHrist Jesus.
That's a bummer. I hope you still write.
I am also sorry Julie.I value your comments and you have been so encouraging. I'm with Michele if you feel like it I hope you still keep in touch with us.
With Love,
Cindy
