Do you have a little star in your family? Most kids, at one time or another, dream of being famous. Maybe he or she even imagines becoming the next Disney Channel mega-cross-over-I-can-act-dance-AND-sing phenomenon. The more skills they have, the better, but they have to be able to read a script, interpret show-biz and theater lingo, and follow instructions given by a director.

There are numerous Las Vegas dance-specific studios offering classes for children. However, there are far fewer studios that offer acting and theatre classes. To make matters worse, many performing arts studios in Las Vegas appear to be technology-challenged. Few, if any, have a web presence. This makes it quite difficult for a 21st century parent to research without making numerous phone calls during business hours and hitting the street for an in-person visit. If your child is interested in acting, here are a few Las Vegas resources to get you started.

Located near Durango and Sahara. Offering 12-week "learn and perform" musical theater classes for children ages 8 to 16. A local performance is given at the end of each session. Also offering voice and dance instruction, including small class and private lessons.

Don't forget, one of the best things you can do to encourage and inspire your child is to attend the many theater performances in Las Vegas featuring children and adults alike. The studios listed above all offer performances at various times of the year for very affordable ticket prices, and some for free! Let your child experience what a local theater performance is all about. It is a far cry from the high-production shows they may see on the strip, or even their favorite television show. In many ways, the small stage is much better. Let your child discover and nurture his or her love for acting.
