This year in Sölden the conditions are particularly favourable after the failure of last year due to constant warm weather; the blend of natural and man-made snow on the glacier giant slalom courses has permitted exceptional preparations. There is also much excitement due to the 10th anniversary of the Audi FIS Alpine World Cup's Glacier Opening
Hans Pieren, FIS Race Director for the men's technical events from the Rettenbach glacier commented "The course is looking great." We are just now working with the water injection bar and should be 90% finished by tonight. There is enough snow and it is also of good quality. Even if it may get a bit warmer and sunnier for the weekend, we will have no problem carrying out the events."
On the other hand, it will be the 6th edition of the Viessmann FIS World Cup Cross-Country in Düsseldorf, Germany with the participation of competitors and Winter Sport Stars such as: Jens Arne Svartedal (NOR), the sprint World Cup winner 2006/2007, 'Mr. Düsseldorf'' Peter Larsson (SWE), the four-time winner of the opening sprint race and World Cup winners 2006/2007 Virpi Kuitunen (FIN) and Tobias Angerer (GER).
The FIS Forum Alpinum (Info Session for Ski Journalists) will take place in Sölden, Austria the day before the Opening of the Audi FIS Alpine World Cup season 2007/08 (Oct. 26th). This press conference has the purpose to provide an update on FIS' activities as to answer all questions the international media might have. Among other presentations are the ones by the Organizing Committees of the FIS Grand Finals 2008 in Bormio (Italy) and the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2009 in Val d'Isère (France) are also scheduled, as is an introduction of the FIS Official Clothing Supplier, Halti of Finland.
This season brings a promise for spectacular performances as for the upcoming days, a significant fall in temperatures is expected with a freezing point drop of below 1000m altitude this will certainly help the sport's quality to excel. Atle Skaardal, FIS Chief Race Director for the ladies' FIS Alpine World Cup commented: "The ongoing work and current conditions on the race course on the glacier look very promising. I am looking forward to a solid start for the season in Sölden.
