Activities, Crafts and Games for Children on Mardi Gras

When you think of Mardi Gras, you might think of parades, flashers and beads being thrown. There is a more to it then that though. It is a celebration for the old and young alike. Mardi Gras is a great time to get kids involved in activities such as games and crafts. This article will give you a few suggestions on what you can do with your children.

Mardi Gras Activities, Crafts and Games for Children #1: Mardi Gras Cup Shakers

Activity Village.com has a fun craft idea called Mardi Gras Cup Shakers. You need 2 foam cups, purple paint, green paint, dried beans (such as pinto, black or brown), gold star stickers (found at Dollar Stores, Walmart, etc) and clear tape. Paint one cup purple and one cup green. Let them dry. Put 1/3 to ½ up beans inside one cup. Now tape the two cups together so that they are closed in. When you're finished, put stickers all over your cup.

Mardi Gras Activities, Crafts and Games for Children #2: Masks

Masks are a HUGE part of Mardi Gras. Most participants of Mardi Gras, wear a mask to celebrate the fun day. To make your own mask, you need to get a piece of poster board. Cut out a mask shape, making eye holes. Color the mask green, purple or gold. Glue feathers, beads, etc onto the mask. Now take a popsicle stick and glue it onto the mask. Your child can hold up the mask to their face.

Party Games.com has free printable crossword puzzles for kids that focus on Mardi Gras. Your child could take a break from their craft to do a crossword puzzle. There are two crossword puzzles available as well as a word search, word scramble and more.

Mardi Gras Activities, Crafts and Games for Children #4: Musical Carnival Caps

Pinatas.com has a fun idea for a Mardi Gras game called Musical Carnival Caps. An adult plays a festive tune on a CD player while all the children have a cap, except for one. When the music stops, the child who does not have a cap, is out of the game. This goes on with a cap being taken out each time, until there is only one winner.
