Activities for Retarded People at County Fairs

Are They Somehow Different?

Dan Reveal
Discussing activities for retarded people at county fairs is a good way to recognize the unique concerns of the mentally retarded through the lens of common place events.

Indeed, the activities for retarded people at county fairs are the same as those for everyone.

This article is based on the common sense assertion that the nature of these country fair activities is typically altered by the corresponding limitations of mental retardation.

The activities are basically the same. They simply change in proportion to the developmental issues which are present.

County Fair Rides

Most people like to go on rides at county fairs, and retarded men and women are no exception. For those mentally retarded people who are prone to having seizures, however, this country fair activity is not recommended.

It seems that the fast motion of some county fair rides is enough to trigger a seizure.

County Fair Food

Eating county fair food is another good example of an activity for retarded people. They like hotdogs as well as anyone, for example.

Caution should be used, however, to make sure those with restricted diets take appropriate medications with their food.

These medications don't take away from the enjoyment of eating county fair food, but they still alter the activity. The medications for retarded people are linked with different types of issues.

When enjoying the activities of county fairs, then, the basic cycle of health care for the mentally retarded cannot be overlooked.

County Fair Animals

Retarded people love to pet the animals at the county fair. There are horses and cows, for example.

In fact, most people enjoy petting the animals at the county fair.

Once again, it is the nature of the mental retardation which makes this county fair activity potentially different and even harmful.

When letting retarded people near animals, for example, caution should be used to make sure they don't frighten the animals with jerky movements. Retarded people are loving, yet they can be physically unbalanced.

In sum, there are many activities for retarded people at county fairs. These activities are fun, and they provide a perspective into the uniqueness of mental retardation.

It is important to remember that the activities of county fairs are the same for everyone. It is the nature of mental retardation which alters them.
