What any diabetic should keep in mind however, is that just taking their daily prescribed medications alone will not work for the best. The medication must be accompanied by diet, and exercises to help manage blood sugars. You should also make sure that you monitor your blood sugars at least twice daily to know where your current control is.
There is a possibility of lactic acidosis by taking Actoplus Met. It is the Metformin portion of the drug which can create lactic acidosis in a person. When lactic acid becomes built up in the blood over time, this is when lactic acidosis occurs. Lactic acidosis is serious, and can cause you to feel rapid breathing, extreme weakness and vertigo, heartbeat is slowing way down, nausea and vomiting. It is very important to notify your doctor very quickly if these are the symptoms you are experiencing.
Side effects from Actoplus Met like any drug, number at least a few. Some of these are dizziness, nausea and vomiting, possible weight gain, water retention, and serious side effects from the liver. If the liver is affected, signs such as yellow skin and eyes, and dark urine will also occur.
If you are having any kidney or liver problems, make sure your doctor knows it before prescribing this drug as it should not be taken in that case. If you are preparing to have surgery of any type, this drug should also be stopped beforehand.
If you miss a dose of your medication, you should not double the next dosage. Instead, wait until your next scheduled dosage. These drugs should also not be taken with a lot of alcoholic beverages in the body. That could prove very dangerous and toxic.
Research has not shown whether or not this drug actually harms the unborn baby, but most doctors would probably have a woman switch to insulin during her pregnancy.
Actoplus Met comes in a tablet form in two different strengths which are 15/500, or 15/850 milligrams. How much you are to take depends upon your diabetic condition.
