Clifford Parker (Cliff Robertson) dies today in New York one day after his eighty-eighth birthday.
Robertson played John F. Kennedy in PT 109 and won an Academy Award to the widely acclaimed movie "Charly". Star of screen and television Robertson also for a short time as a journalist.
Scandal hit Cliff Robertson in 1977 when he found that his name had been forged on a $10,000 check. As it turned out David Begelman of Columbia Studios had been the forger and by reporting it Robertson started one of Hollywood's biggest scandals and was blacklisted for several years. He eventually returned to film and television work.
Robertson was married to Cynthia Stone , one time wife of Jack Lemmon . Together Cliff and Cynthia had a daughter Stephanie; but later divorced in 1960. He would again marry in1966 to Dina Merrill and together they had a daughter Heather. This marriage also ended in divorce in 1989. Heather predeceased both her parents when she died of cancer in 1989. Cliff's first wife Cynthia died in 1988 while Dina now married to actor Ted Hartley is 85 years young.
Cliff Robertson is survived by his daughter Stephanie. Cliff Robertson's funeral is scheduled for Friday in East Hampton, NY.

I remember him quite vividy as "Charley", the mentally retarded man who becomes intellectually 'normal' for a while and then isn't any more. One of those films that really sticks. His death is certainly a loss to the creative film community.
