Actor Roy Schneider and All of His Accomplishments

Roy Schneider passed away February 10, 2008. He was 75. He was diagnosed with myeloma in 2004 which is a cancer of the plasma cells. In 2005, after a bone marrow transplant, he was thought to be in a partial remission. Unfortunately, that was short lived. He passed away from complications from a staph infection in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was born November 10, 1932 in Orange, New Jersey. Roy was an Academy Award and Golden Globe nominated actor. Although he appeared in many movies, he is probably most known for his role in the Jaws movies as a police chief.

The movie history of Roy Schneider is as follows: Curse of the Living Corpses (1963), Klute (1971), The French Connection (1971), Jaws (1975), Marathon Man (1976), Jaws 2 (1978), All That Jazz (1979), Blue Thunder (1983), Tiger Town (1983), 2010, The Year We Make Contact (1984), The Men's Club (1986), 52 Pick-Up (1986), Cohen and Tate (1988), Listen to Me (1989), Night Game (1989), The Fourth War (1989), The Russia House (1990), Somebody has to Shoot the Picture (1990), Naked Lunch (1991), Wild Justice (1993), Romeo is Bleeding (1994), The Peacekeeper (1996), Executive Target (1997), The Myth of Fingerprints (1997) The Rainmaker (1997), The Rage (1997), Plato's Run (1997), Evasive Action (1998), Silver Wolf (1998), RKO 281 (1999), Falling Through (2000), Daybreak (2000), The Doorway (2000), Texas 46 (2000), Dracula II: Ascension (2003), The Punisher (2004), Dark Honeymoon (2007), The Poet (2007), and Iron Cross (2007).

He's also had other gigs such as the 1993 TV show SeaQuest DSV for 3 seasons. He also guest starred in several shows, including Third Watch, Saturday Night Live, Family Guy, and Law and Order: Criminal Intent.

Rob Schneider was also supposed to star in several films, but others actors ended up being chosen. The first move was The Deer Hunter. He was cast as Michael. He was offered the lead role in The Omen. He was the first one offered the role of John Rambo in First Blood as well. It makes you wonder where his career could have went if he had any of these roles. Perhaps we would have had more A list movies towards the end of his career instead of any B-list movies that many of us have never heard of.

He is survived by his second wife Brenda Seimer Schneider, son Christian, daughters Molly and Maximilla (from his first marriage).

I've noticed that Roy Scheider was something of a substitute actor. He replaced William Sylvester, who played Floyd in 2001: A Space Odyssey. Nice article.
