Actor's Garage Sale Helps Him Get Through Economic Slump

Susan Elliott
Today's economy has affected everyone's pocket books. Unfortunately, it is no surprise when you hear that your neighbors have lost their homes or jobs, but it is a whole different story when reports surface that the economy has hit the Hollywood Stars.

Willie Aames, former child star of the 1970s, 1980's (Eight is Enough, and Charles in Charge), who most recently worked in Bible Man (1996), and the 2006 television series Bugtime Adventure where he was the narrator has been affected by our struggling economy.

Associated Press Reports this morning that Aames held a garage sale at his home in "suburban Kansas," Thursday , March 26th. It is reported that "dozens of fans showed up at his home." They were looking for autographs, and one of a kind possessions. Aames wasn't afraid to make deals for bargain hunters, and reports indicate that many people took advantage of his economic struggles.

According to AP some items that were for sale "included antiques, artwork, a piano, deer head mounts and TV and movie memorabilia." Of course Aames took advantage of his difficult circumstances. He had a television crew film the entire sale so they could use it for a television show. While Aames is not considered an "A" list star, he is living proof that everyone is affected by our struggling economy.

Is our country recovering from it's economic crisis, or will there be more stars like Aames filling bankruptcy and holding garage sales? This question is a topic of much debate on every news channel and in Washington D.C. But, it has been reported by oanow.com that do to our economy job rates reached into the double digits last months for several states, and that "North Carolina and Rhode Island are seeing their rates hit record highs."

I can't help but think that it's too bad that "normal" people don't have the option of having a huge garage sale that makes national news to help them recover from financial hardship. Of course, holding a garage sale may be just the thing to help us all earn extra cash today. After all, isn't it America's exorbitant spending that has helped to lead us into the financial crisis we're facing?
